"Buried in Missouri" > Eliza J., wife, b Feb 10, 1826 > regards, Roberta Thanks so much, Roberta: I really appreciate it. I knew we had communicated before when I saw your e-mail address, indeed, you are in my address book. I think you tried to find Ruth Ann (Van )Dillon Ninemire's burial place for me once before. I'm beginning to think that William Ninemire 'did her in' to marry a younger woman, Martha Giffin. I hope to get to the bottom of all of this eventually. Thanks again, Karen Henderson Sunnyvale, CA >[email protected]<

Would anyone have any information on Samuel Yohn who is listed in the 1830 census in Highland County, Ohio? I am attempting to determine whether he is the same Samuel Yohn who had lived in Perry County, Pennsylvania. I believe there is also a Samuel Yohn listed in the 1850 census. I certainly would appreciate if someone could look up the detail on both the 1830 and 1850 census for the Samuel Yohn in Highland, Ohio and send it to me. June Yohn [email protected]
William T. Wardlow was born in Nov 1866. He married 5 Mar 1892 in Highland Co., Ohio to Sarah Ella Faris. She was born in June 1861. I have a list of the children. When and were did this couple die?? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
Hi there, Researching descendants of Mary Jane Steel who married and divorced Benjamin Cravens of Marshall township. Namely, Lydia Cravens and Arron Kelly. Mary Jane Cravens and James Dunlap. John S. Cravens. Also any descendant of Job T. Steel who married Melvian Barnett. I know of at least 10 children from this marriage. Also a Rebecca Steel who married John L. Lucas about 1860 and later lived in Grand Bend Kansas with one of her sons. The Benjamin Cravens family arrived in Highland County about 1835. Job T in mid 1850's These families were all born in Greene County PA. This is about all I know of their Ohio experience. Anyone know the rest of the story ? Wayne Steel [email protected]
Hi! Just a little get-acquainted info. I'm Joyce Gehringer, born and raised in WV but now living in MO. Since graduating high school in 1979 I have four children from my first marriage and am in my second marriage, no children and don't plan on any. My children are Kelly - 20 and she has a wonderful little baby boy of 4months, my son-in-laws' name is Cliff, Gregory is 18 and in his first year in college majoring in History and (I think) a minor in Ministry, Anna is 16 and living with her dad - she is in the high school band, Army ROTC, and active in her church, and my youngest is Ben - 11 going on 22 but is doing well in school and LOVES Beanie Babies, Pokemon Cards, and Baseball (the sport and cards). I lived in New York State for 4 years, Cambridgeshire Col, England for 4 years, Northern California for 11 years and now in MO for almost a year. Have traveled to one or two other countries for short visits and several places in different states within the U.S. I must say though that there is some breath-takingly beaurtiful country out there, my heart is and always will be in the mountains of "home". My interests include, of course, genealogy, crafts of various kinds, history, writing poetry, travel, camping, fishing, meeting new people, making new friends, and just enjoying life. My research is currently focused on the surname of CHANNEL(L). In particular a MAHALA (unknown maiden name) that was married to a SOLOMON CHANNEL(L) with three children listed in the 1850 Highland Co, OH census. He was aged 41 and she of 43. SOLOMON was not in the 1860 Census for High. Co., and neither was MAHALA. How ever, MAHALA was listed in the 1860, Van Buren County, Iowa Census with JOSEPH CHANNEL(L) and one son WILLIAM J. JOSEPH is believed by me to be a brother of SOLOMON however I am not certain. Also because of the age of WILLIAM J., age 21 years ,(whose ancestry and descendents is my focus) on both Census records, it is possible that SOLOMON is his natural father and JOSEPH is his step-father. I am hoping to connect this line of Channel(l)s to the line of Channells I am descended from. I feel I'm close but no "cigar" yet. I received a couple of mailings already from a previous posting of my surname search, I think from members of this list. If so, I have your info printed and will get back to you as soon as possible. Other surnames connected with CHANNEL(L) being researched to date are GRAVITT, WHORTON, LASTLEY. Any assistance is soooo appreciated. Thank-you and have a good week! I am looking for further information on the family of Margaret McCoats Kessler. She was born 19 May 1821 in Fayette Co, Penn. the dau. of Sam McCoats and Hannah Springer. Margaret McCoats married George Kessler (I have no dates for him.) I have been told the family of George and Margaret Kessler lived in Highland Co, Ohio. There were apparently two Kessler sons - a younger George, and James Kessler. (I have no dates for them.) Thank you, Kathleen Rizer
Thanx so much for answering my query, Shirley. There are a few common points in what you sent. Really the only thing that is definitely not a match is mine are from VA & yours from PA. Have you ever researched Simon Akers of Clinton & Highland Co's, OH?? I remember seeing a Jacob Achor in a census & wondering if he was Simon's son. I've searched 45 years & others before me since 1935 for the parents of Henry Akers who was m. 1821 in Estill Co., KY. I decided to try & jump the generation gap & see if I can come down through descendants. Henry was probably German as he & wife Delilah Miller spoke another language in the home & she was German. He had brothers John b. c1894 & Wm b. c1802. I had heard that Simon had quite a large family & that some had moved across the Ohio River to settle in KY. I will keep what you sent. Thanx again, Donna
Donna, I, too, am interested in learning more about the Achor family in Ohio. My gggrandmother was Sarah ACHOR, b. March 20, 1824, d. November 30, 1886, probably in Clinton Co., OH. She m. JACOB JACKSON, January 1, 1845. I have not been able to determine who Sarah's parents were. Sarah and Jacob Jackson's dates and children's names were in a Jackson/Achor family Bible which my great uncle, Carl COLVIN had. Over the years in my searching I found the following notes about Achors in Ohio, in "The History of Ross & Highland Counties", by William Brothers, c 1880: p. 499..."John Achor and Jacob Achor, father and son, came from Pennsylvania, the former to Clinton Co., in 1812, the latter, to Union Township in 1813. The farm upon which Jacob settled is now owned by his widow, Rebecca Achor and his daughter, Nancy E. Mowry. Two daughters, Mary and Julia Achor, own another farm nearby on which their father spent his last years and died. Remaining members of the family are Jacob, Lemuel and Joseph Achor and Elizabeth Clevenger all living in Union" p. 501 of the same source: "Jacob Achor was organizer of Mount Olivet Christian Church in 1833...now stands on land once owned by Jacob Jackson...erected in 1859". Do not know if any of this helps, but there may be some clues here. Shirley Sampson <[email protected]>

Donna, Can you tell me what the "norm" is for the postings/traffic on this list? I've not been subscribed very long but haven't seen many postings. Are they not coming through or is it a very small list with few postings. What's the scoop? Thank-you. Since about 2 a.m. this morning I have not had the problems I was describing over the last 2 weeks. I think, & hope the problem is solved. I also became aware of getting more than one copy of e-mails, & digests from the lists. One poor soul who I send an e-mail to, received it 7 times before he yelled "Uncle"/ I removed him from my address book. Scary about the lack of privacy of the whole thing. Donna
Karen, That's another thing too. I've sent emails and wondered why I didn't get answers to some questions or anything from them, only to get a letter back (after a while) from them asking if I got their letter and was I ok. I thought it was webtv possibly because it is a fairly new "thing" but I see now it's something else. I agree, hope it is fixed soon. Thought something was wrong with my mail server - I've sent e-mails to people who are usually quite responsive and received no reply. Hope the problem is solved soon. Maybe it's one particular provider. Karen Henderson Sunnyvale, CA >[email protected]<

Simon Akers was the son of William of Franklin Co., VA. Simon m. 1780's in Greenbrier Co., VA to Mary Smith. About 1799 they moved their LARGE family to Clinton Co., OH area. He died when it was Highland Co. c1826. Will names wife Mary but no children. There was a Smith who was co-executor with Mary. Her brother? nephew? Also seeking descendants of Simon & Mary Smith Akers. From census records, it appears the spelling of the name may have changed to Achor/Achors. Will exchange. Donna
I anyone else having problems accessing Rootsweb sites? In 72 hours, I have only been able to call up one site & probably tried 50 times. Also not getting the usual amount of mail from the lists. Donna
