    3. June, I would think that they would be available from the courthouse in Hillsboro. I have an index to the "Wills, Administrations, Guardianships and Adoptions of Highland County, Ohio (1805-1880)", if you want to check ahead of time and see if there is actually a will on file. wjyohn wrote: > Does anyone know where I would write to get copies of either wills or > intestate records for someone who died 1874-1876 in Madison Twp., Highland > County, Ohio? 1. [OHHIGHLA-L] bound out or adopted between 1805 and 1825?
    2. Hello everyone, How would I get information about 3 boys being bound out or adopted between 1805 and 1825? They were Underwoods. John Underwood was born in Brown Co. in 1805. The 1880 Iowa's census said his father was b. in Ireland. Nothing is known about his father as the boys were said to be orphaned at an early age. Would there be court records for such early dates in any of southwest Ohio? Not sure exactly were as he was said to be born in Brown Co, though it was not formed till after his birth. Thanks for any help, Robin

    3. There are TWO cemeteries with the name Fall Creek (this according to the book, Cemetery Inscriptions of Highland County, by Jane & David McBride, 1972 Fall Creek Cemetery (Presbyterian) Liberty Township Remarks: Many people from Scotland are buried here. The Presbyterians organized a church here in 1807. The old Presbyterian Church wuhich stood beside this cemetery was demolished some time after 1954. Burials were made here as early as 1810 and this cemetery is still in use today. It is also known as Morrow and Upper Fall Creek Cemetery. On March 8, 1820, in Original Book O, page 502, Highland County Deed Records, William MORROW, Senr., conveyed 1 acre 3 rood and 34 poles to James YOUNG, William WRIGHT, and John BUNTAIN, Trustees of Fallcreek Associate Reformed Congregation. Hicksite Quaker Cemetery Paint Township Remarks: On April 7, 1819, in Transcribed Book 1, page 535, Highland County Deed Records, by indenture, nathaniel POPE conveyed six acres to Enoch OVERMAN. In the description of the land in this deed is the following call: "...to a whiteoak north westerly corner of a lt of four acres of land laid off and sold for the benefit of Fall Creek school house and graveyard." The conveyance to the four acres cannot be found. Apparently, from the following deed, Nathaniel POPE neglected to make a conveyance of this land he owned at that time. On Sept. 29, 1830, in Transcribed Book 10, page 544, by indenture, Wm., Sam'l, John W. POPE and Thomas W. SANDERS, legal heirs and representatives of Nathaniel POPE, decd., conveyed to "Elias OVERMAN and Wm. NEWBY trustees appointed by Fall Creek Metting of the other part, Witnesseth that for and in consideration of the sum of $12 to him the said Nathaniel POPE in hand paid the said heirs and legal representatives of said Nathaniel POPE, decd., do hereby release and quit claim" to the four acres referred to above. Residents of the vicinity say the old "Lower Fall Creek Church" or "Hicksite Quaker Church," built in 1835, was situated across the road from this cemetery and is now a part of the dwelling house there. Burial Record No. 1, page 4, in the County Auditor's Office, states that Allen TAYLOR, a farmer and a soldier of the War of 1812, died at New Petersburg, Mar. 13, 1886, and was buried here. His monument could not be found. Old newspapers refer to this cemetery as Overman, Fall Creek, Hicksite, Upper Fall Creek, Upper Quaker, and Stringtown. It is still used for burials. There are a few field stones for monuments. Refer to Friends Meeting House Cemetery, this township, for further remarks. regards, Roberta ----- Original Message ----- From: <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Sunday, November 28, 1999 7:27 AM Subject: [OHHIGHLA-L] Fall Creek Cemetary > I looking for any information on the Fall Creek Cemetary. > > Michael Campbell > > > ==== OHHIGHLA Mailing List ==== > Visit the US GenWeb: <http://www.usgenweb.com/> > >

Bobbi [email protected] Rubel-John Ruble inVirginia The following information about our 1761 John Ruble is taken from answers to questions to John Ruble by J.P. Henry Surber in Whiteoak Township, Highland County, Ohio, June 21, 1833. I have condensed the two pages of questions and answers somewhat for those who might not be able to read the copy of the Pension application in the Appendix.) John Ruble was born in Shanandoah County in 1761. In September 1777 he was drafted for three months service in the Virginia Militia. Under Capt. Anthony Rader's command he marched to the headwaters of the Greenbrier River to Fort Work to protect the people from attack by the hostile Indians. (Headwaters of the Greenbrier River are in or near Monroe County, Virginia = Now West Virginia) " I was frequently sent out by my Captain as a spy against the Indians. In performing this duty as a spy, I ranged through the country in the neighborhood of Fort Work. I was discharged at the end of the three months and returned to Rockingham County." "In July 1778 I was again drafted for the Virginia Militia to serve against the Indians under Capt. Abram Linkhorn, which company belonged to the regiment commanded by Col. Benjamin Harrison. I was marched to a point on the Ohio River about fifty miles below Fort Pitt where I joined General McIntosh service. At that point during a month I helped build Fort McIntosh. I was then marched to the headquarters of the Tuscrawas River in the Northwet Territory in pursuit of hostile indians. There I helped build Fort Senuance. (Massilon=Canton, Ohio area.) I remained there several weeks during which time General McIntosh made a treaty with the indians. I served four months during this period. I was discharged and returned to Rockingham County." "In August 1781 I was again drafted and served under Capt.Bags in Col. Darke's Regiment. I was marched to Yorktown which was occupied by the British Army under General Cornwallis. We joined General Washington before Yorktown. I remained in active service before said town until 3 days before the surrender of Cornwallis. I received my discharge and returned to Rockingham County, Virginia." He also stated that he lived in Rockingham County about 20 years. Moved to Shanadoah, Va. Lived there a few years, then to Augusta County for 7 years, when I moved to Monroe County, Virginia. Just when John arrived in Monroe County is not known/ (Albertine (Aunt Tine) Ruble Louderback, daughter of John P. Ruble furnished the following information.) His wife a Ballard. Grandmother Rubles name was Rebecca Clark, daughter of John Clark. Rebecca's mother was a Cunningham. She was born in Monroe County, West Virginia. Aunt Tine also added that Andrew had four brothers. James, William, Jack(John Jr.) and George Monroe County, West Virginia records show the following: 1. John Ruble , Jr. married Isabella Snodgrass Oct. 10, 1810 2. James Ruble married Sarah Hutchison Jan. 19, 1813 3. John Ruble and his wife Sarah sold 200 acres of land on Turkey Creek to Goerge Barne on Sept. 21, 1821. This is all that I know about the history of the 1761 John Ruble in Virginia. At this time a genealogist in Winchester, Virginia, is still searching for information regarding John and his relationship to George and Ulrick Rubel.

    3. Hi Jill! I have a Delilah A. FENNER b abt 1830 who had a sister, Margaret E. b abt 1833 (the E could stand for Elizabeth). But accdg my info, their parents were John A. FENNER and Mary Ann AMBROSE. I have been unable to determine the parents of John or Mary Ann. The only Nancy FENNER I know of was the wife of Jacob AMBROSE, and she lived and died in Morgan County, WV. I have been waiting for the Highland Co. US Genweb coordinator, Jeff Grayson, to return, as I understand he is researching the FENNERS. Understand he is back. Perhaps he is listening in and can straighten us both out.
