OK, so I've done more work now. It appears not only was there a George Shultz in the German Township/Rumley Township area, but also a George Shuss! If Mary Shuss belongs to this family, it explains Harrison's son Jacob C. Miller (named hafter Harrison's uncle Jacob Condo who married a Shuss), but it unexplains why he behaves like a Hoobler. The Shuss family was from York, PA, not from VA, so how was Harrison's mother born in VA like he claims. It appears he actually was talking about Michael Hoobler and Catherine Schultz. After all, he did name a son Samuel Hoobler Miller too! So what's going on here? I'm very, very confused now. The Shus family lived in York, PA since before 1790! Odds are, George Shuss was married there, since he was living next door to the Ruleman family, and his wife's maiden name is supposed to be Ruseman. So I'm still trying to figure out: Why does Harrison Miller act like the son of a Hoobler, dispite having never lived with the Hooblers, and dispite me having figured out the parents already. Was there a Shuss/Hoobler marriage? I know there was a Hoobler/Miller marriage, but that was a cousin of Harrison, not a brother, sister or aunt/uncle, so it seems strange that he would have used the name. It's more strange why he says his dad was from PA and mom from VA, when I already know his dad was from MD (or a slim possibility from PA) and his mother was from PA! He appears to be referring to the Hoobler info! I'm absolutely sure the mother was this Mary Shuss too. Everything else fits. Not just the Jacob Condo bit, but another sister married a Whitmore, and that family named one of their children Harrison Whitmore Kail! That's another Harrison in the same family. Can you shed any more light? -----Original Message----- From: Sha1948605@aol.com [mailto:Sha1948605@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 7:35 PM To: kborland@comcast.net Subject: Re: George Shultz' final estate papers Kevin, If you need me to transcribe this page for you let me know. I don't know if it will come through good enough for you to read or not. When my sister and I were at the Harrison Co. Genealogical Society last fall we took our laptop and scanner so we could get the best copies possible. I would suggest that the next time you visit the genealogical society you ask to see George Shultz' final estate papers. They keep them in the basement but it didn't take the volunteers very long to locate them for us. Understandably, the papers were very fragile but in remarkably good condition. I think the society is closed now until spring. You can check their web site. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Please keep me updated on what you find out. It sure is a mystery. Were there two Mary Shultz' born in Loudoun Co. VA in Harrison Co. at the same time? I don't know of George Shultz having any siblings in the area. In fact, I don't know any of George's siblings nor his parents' names. I do know that George fought in the Revolutionary War with the Pennsylvania militia, Berks Co. under Captain Peter Nagel. The family came from Harper's Ferry, VA to Harrison Co., Ohio in 1804. They settled in German Twp. The marriage of Mary Elizabeth Shultz and Daniel Shawver on June 6, 1808 Jefferson Co., Ohio, was found in the IGI Batch No. M514371. Please let me know how the attachments came through to you. Looking for the family of Sarah Glass born 1 Nov 1803 in Cadiz. She married #1 Isaiah Hearn and had Mary Ann, Sarah Jane, Martin, Matilda, Maria, and Issac by 1835. She married #2 George W. White 1877 in Nemeha County KS. She died in 1899, probably in KS.
