I've been corresponding with Curt Sytsma for awhile - although he hasn't responded to my last couple of e-mails - trying to find a connection between his McCombs ancestors and mine. Looking at the names in Hugh McDonough's will, along with the FGS Curt put out for James & Marcy Hoagland McDonough, the connection is so close, and yet so far. My gg-grandfather's sister Jane Jeffers (b 1794) married Christopher Hines - brother to Jacob Hines? Maybe, maybe not. William & Sallie McDonough Sproul purchased land from John & Eliza Steeves, daughter & son-in-law to my gg-grandfather's sister Sarah Jeffers (m 1.Girt, 2.Ely, 3.Canaga); in 1849, Sproul's sold the property to John McLandsborough, either father-in-law or husband to Sarah's second daughter, Catharine. In 1845, Aden McDonough married Mary Canaga, step-daughter to Sarah Jeffers. Marcy McDonough's husband Andrew McLandsborough, is brother to Sarah Jeffers' son-in-law, John McLandsborough. Then, of course, there's the somewhat distant connection between Sarah Jeffers' family and the Maxwell's. With all those connections to my known relatives, it seems reasonable that Susann McDonough's husband Abraham H. McCombs is related to my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth McCombs Jeffers - BUT, I can't find a definite connection! VERY FRUSTRATING! Since my direct line apparently didn't own pencil and paper, I really appreciate people like you on my collateral lines, doing and posting research.
