This morning I woke up in Beautiful Scio OH, Harrison Co! Unfortunately, I'm now back in Dull, Boring, FLAT Vigo Co. IN. I visited the Courthouse in Cadiz, and did find some info with the help of a very nice woman there in the probate office. Unfortunately, there are no death records prior to a certain date so was unable to find anything for my Robert Rose who died there in Aug. 10, 1840. Does anyone know if there is any record of deaths for that time period anywhere else in the County??? I was able to visit Cadiz Twp, and see the land that the Rose's settled and farmed, and one of the houses was still standing. It was very old, and about to fall in, but we ventured inside anyway. (with permission of course.) There was a cemetery near there and there were some Rose's interred there, some newer stone's, and several sandstone markers. I have a gut feeling that Robert is buried there, as he settled so closely. Of course, gut feelings are not an accurate source. I really enjoyed my time in Scio, and plan to go back ASAP!!! They put on the absolute best fireworks, and my 4yr. old won 3rd place in the peddle tractor pull at the park on the 4th! THanks, Missy :) My Family tree is full of NUTS!!! Thank you for the report. I do know that Robert left a will... WILL ABSTRACT Page 443: Robert Rose, Washington townships; date of will, March 16, 1840; date of probate, December 7 1840. Did you by any chance take pix of the old Rose house? I'd love to see them if you did. Were you able to read any of those sandstone headstones. You know that the Roses were stone masons... They might have done their own headstones. Sure wish I lived closer. SW Fla is SOOOOO far away. Please be careful up there...I just heard that the west nile virus is now up in that area...so watch out for the mosquitoes. Tom C.
