    1. [OHHARRIS] Henderson MD>PA>Harrison Co., OH
    2. Most of the Henderson line after they arrived in Harrison Co., has been well researched. Saundra Gibbs has a GEDCOM at rootsweb worldconnect. And also see the McPeck genealogy compiled by M F Percy in 1973. The mystery is the generation born in Ireland and Maryland. From the Hx of Carroll and Harrison Counties, Eckley, and by family oral history, John Henderson was b. ~1786 in Co. Derry, Ireland. He came to the U.S. at age 16, with some of his family. Either they landed in MD or they landed elsewhere and migrated to MD. He ran away when some of them decided to return to Ireland. He is said to have been reunited with a brother later in life; but the brother's name is not recorded. Lavina Henderson, d/o George Henderson "of Scotish descent", was b. 10/20/1795 in Harford Co., MD. After being "doubly orphaned" she was raised by an Uncle (name not known). There is a George Henderson in the 1800 census for Harford; but there are no white females under 16 in the household. George is not listed in the 1783 Assessment of Harford Co. It has been suggested that John and Lavina were m. in Hagerstown, Washington Co., MD; but they do not appear in the index for 1799- 1860. They are believed to have married in MD and then moved to Indiana Co., PA, where their first son, James was b. 9/10/1813. Their 2nd son, Matthew is believed to have been b. in October of 1816 or 1817, somewhere in MD. In 1816 the family moved to Harrison Co. and settled in Rumley twnshp. They had 9 additional children in Ohio. This same family oral hx is echoed in the biography of Sarah Henderson (b.~1823), d/o John and Lavina, and Lemuel Crawford in the Champaign Co., Illinois history. See at the Champaign Co., IL site of the USgenweb project. The biography lists Sarah as the sixth child, but I have her as the fifth. I wonder if there was another child born to John and Lavina, died before the 1850 census, and unknown to us? I would like to hear from others who are researching this family, or who have done research in MD and can provide suggestions on how else to research this line. J.R.
