    1. [OHHARRIS] Charles Scott m. 1830 Margaret Dodds
    2. These folks are my brick wall, as there are so many Scotts in the area pre-1850. Charles Scott was b. Jefferson Co.,OH 1805/06 d. 4/18/1864 Franklin twnshp, Harrison Co., buried in Freeport cemetery. On April 20, 1830 (Harrison Co. Probate Ct/Marriage records) he married Margaret Dodds b. 8/1810 or 9/1811 in Ireland d. 8/14/1881 Franklin twnshp, Harrison Co., buried in Freeport cemetery. I have not seen the headstones, & I assume the variation in birthdate is based on a statement that she was so many yrs., months, days old at dod, and different transcribers have calculated the date differently. Does anyone have another source? Either could be correct when compared to age reported in the census records. In 1840, 1850 & 1860 they are farming in Franklin twnshp. In 1840 there is also a John Scott in Franklin twhshp; anyone know if this was a relative to Charles? In the 1880 census Margaret is on the farm with a grandson, Charles Snee. In the Commemortative Biographical Record for Washington Co., Pa there is mention of a John Dodds, b.1771 Co. Donegal, who brought many poor Irish relations over to the U.S., including a brother for whom he purchased a house in Harrison Co., OH. But, it does not give the name of the brother or the decade of immigration. Is anyone else researching Dodds? Charles & Margaret had 10 known children: 1. James 1832-1893 m. Caroline ? 2. Mary 1833-? m. ? Hamilton 3. William 1834-1904 m. Mary ? 4. Easter (aka Hester, aka Esther) 1837-? m. Andrew McBarnes 5. Eleanor (aka Ellenor aka Ellen) 1838-1914 m. Henry Pittis Worstell 6. Maria 1840- ? m. Aquilla Tipton 7. Margaret 1844-? m. ?Snee/Smee (Gideon?) 8. Isabelle 1846-? m. Nelson Adams 9. John D. 1847-? m. Annis C. ? 10. Clifford 1855-1929 m. Eliza ? I have a note that there was a Thomas, but as I didn't find him in the census records. I suspect he is their grandson; Thomas b.1860 s/o James. I have had some interesting email conversations with some of the descendants, and we all seem to be "stuck" at Charles m. Margaret. Any assistance with Scott & Dodds will be appreciated. J.R.
