The Harrison County families that I am researching settled mainly in Cadiz and Athens Townships (Dickerson, Dunlap, McCoy, and Porter families) and in Moorefield Township (McKibben, McMillan, and Moore). Thomas Dickerson (m. Marry Curry) came to Harrison County in about 1800 and bought a section of land where the Dickerson Methodist Episcopal Church is now located. He donated the land for the church and many of his descendants are buried in the cemetery. I have documentation of his father Joshua Dickerson (m. Susanna Whitten) in Fayette County, PA, and his grandfather John Dickerson (m. Ruth) in Washington County, PA. Charles Hanna believed that John of Washington County was the son of Henry (m Susannah Surratt) of Montgomery County, MD. To date, I have not seen proof of that relationship, and would be interested if anyone else has. I would be interested in corresponding with anyone working on this Dickerson family. My line comes down through Thomas Dickerson (m. Mary Curry)'s son Hiram, and his son John, who married Amanda McCoy (daughter of John and Eliza Walker McCoy). Samuel Porter (m. Sarah Burns) came to Harrison County in the early1800's from Washington County, PA. He lived to the ripe old age of 102, and died the same year as his son, and my ancestor, Samuel Porter (m. Rebecca Dickerson, son of Joshua Dickerson [m. Sarah Dunlap]). I would like to correspond with anyone researching this family. In particular, I'm interested in Samuel Porter's ancestry. Also, has anyone located any information about Sarah Burns' ancestry? Robert and Mary Armstrong Moore came to America from Ireland in 1793 and settled in Moorefield Township, Harrison County, about 1813. The original homestead is still owned by a descendant. Many of the Moore descendants were members of the Nottingham Presbyterian Church. Has anyone been able to locate a passenger list naming Robert and Mary Armstrong Moore or to trace them to a particular locale in Ireland? My line descends from Robert and Mary's son William (m. Lydia Delaney). George McKibben (m. Mary Brokaw) settled in Moorefield Township in the early 1800's. He is reported to be the son of Richard McKibben (m. Sarah Brokaw). Richard McKibben settled in Harrison County for a few years before relocating to Morgan County, where he died. George McKibben remained in Harrison County. My line descends from George's son John (m. Isabelle McMillan, daughter of Charles and Rosanna Gilmore McMillan). The McMillan's were members of Rankin Church. Many of the McKibbens were members of Nottingham Presbyterian Church. The McMillan family is said to have come to America from Ireland in about 1806. Has anyone seen a passenger list naming them, or learned where in Ireland they originated? Again, I would be interested in corresponding with anyone researching any of these families. Mary McVicker kmcv@execpc.com
