I am wondering whether anyone knows where the early Harrison County court records are, or if they survive at all. I know the courthouse has some index books to the old court journals, but when I asked about the original record books, I was told that nobody had seen them for years and the people at the courthouse did not know what had become of them. Were the court records ever microfilmed? I would like to find records of the court case referenced in the following newspaper clipping about the Shannon mill from a June 1939 issue of the Cadiz Republican, ".....This mill was constructed by James McAdam for the McDowell brothers, probably about 1830. It was built on the south fork of Brushy Fork creek, about a mile above the still older Dickerson mill, when that mill seemed doomed by court action as recorded in 1833 in Harrison County court records. The Dickerson mill was on the land of William Jones but the dam for water power was on the land of Wesley Gregg. The bitter legal battle would have ended this mill but an act by the State Legislature saved it by decreeing that any public convenience already erected could remain. So both mills operated and flourished......" I am interested in the Dickerson family. William Jones, who owned the land, was married to Rachel Dickerson and at least five of Rachel's brothers and four of her sisters were in Harrison County about that time. Does anyone know which Dickerson was running the mill? Sincerely, Larry Dickerson
