    1. [OHHARRIS] Rootsweb Upgrade
    2. Janet Birney
    3. I just received this, from RootsWeb, so thought I'd pass it on, as it effects all of us in one way or another. If nothing else, you will NOT be receiving list postings from any RootsWeb gen. lists, for an unknown period of time, starting Monday. Beginning Monday, 10 June 2002, RootsWeb will begin the complex and time-consuming process of upgrading our servers to new hardware. What does this mean for you? Well, it means some servers will be unavailable during this time unavailable and we are asking for your patience. For up-to-date information about the different resources, you can visit http://helpdesk.rootsweb.com/ as the move progresses. List Administrators: When the time comes to move list servers, we will be halting operation on the machine to complete the move. We expect to have the machines down the least amount of time possible. No mail will be sent from or posted to your mailing lists. We do not expect to lose any messages. Web Pages: FTP will be down so that changes can't be made to pages until everything is working correctly on the new servers. There will be a short time that the pages will not be available as the transfer takes place. Thank you for your patience and understanding while we go through a few "growing pains." ============================== To join Ancestry.com and access our 1.2 billion online genealogy records, go to: http://www.ancestry.com/rd/redir.asp?targetid=571&sourceid=1237

    1. [OHHARRIS] KENT/ROSE Connection in Harrison Co. OH
    2. Tom
    3. Hi I am a direct descendent of Absalom KENT (1752-1839)who is buried in the Spiker Private Cemetery in Stock Township and Robert ROSE (1760 - 1840)burial place unknown. I am looking for some help, if there is someone up in that area is willing to lend a hand I would really appreciate it. I just spent hrs and hrs going through the 1850 census for Harrison Co. looking for Robert's wife. According to my notes, she died there in Harrison Co. on 01 March 1852.(I have a note that says her d/c was filed 5 Jan 1877 BK A P 84 SEC 7 but that cannot possibly be correct. Why would a d/c be filed 25 yrs after she died??) When Robert Rose died he lived in W12 Section 28, 11-6. He took possession of this land in 24 October 1824. His will dated March 16, 1840 says Washington Twp. His wife - Sarah or Sophia ROSE has disappeared or for some reason is not listed on the 1850 census. I would love to know what happened to Sarah/Sophia and Robert ROSE. Where are they buried? A very nice person up there did some checking in a book of cemetery listing and was not able to find them. :-( Next, if there is some one up there with a digital camera who would be willing to take a pix of Absalom's grave I would really appreciate it. That way you could e-mail it to me. I know that according to the DAR he is buried in the Spiker Cemetery, Stock Twp. Row 4, Grave 20. I know that these two families also are connect to the following line: BEST, KELLY, WORTH, ROSE, BOYD, STEPHENS, VAN HORN, THROCKMORTON, GARNER, COLEMAN, FARRINGWORTH, ANKRIM, FORD, and others there in Harrison Co. Thanks in advance for any help. Please let me know if I can be of any help to anyone who might be related. Tom C. Way down in SW Florida

    1. [OHHARRIS] Drake Families in early Harrison County,OH.<1820
    2. Pam Drake
    3. Does anyone have a copy of the book the Historical Collection of Harrison Co.,OH.? I know there were several Drake's in the county. Does it talk much about Thomas Drake & Hannah Browning on page 255? Like who their parents were etc.? They were married in Harrison Co.,OH. on 25 Jan.1837.They were my 2xgreat-grandparents. I have hit a brick wall with them!! Thomas Drake was born in 1810 either in MD. or VA.(I've seen both on the census) to unknown parents & siblings. Hannah Browning was born circa 1815 either in OH. or MD. also to unknown parents or siblings. After they married the Drake's moved to Monroe Co.,OH. & had 10 children. Their names were: William, Benjamin, John,Thomas Carter,George Washington, Mary, Wesley, Frederick,Cassandra & Esther Drake. By the 1870 Federal census Thomas,Hannah & 7 of their 10 children had moved to Wapello Co.,IA.. Only William,George & Thomas Carter Drake(my line) remained in Ohio. Does anyone know anything about this family of Drake's? Please write me if you do. Thanks for all your help! Sincerely, Pam Drake padrake@psci.net

    1. [OHHARRIS] Connotton United Brethren Church
    2. Hey Folks, I think I got a breakthrough, my couin in California received a site with my Phillip Criplivers sister Margaret's tombstone on it at the United Brethren Cemetery at Connotton. If Phillip and Susannah also attended there I will be most happy. I am looking for baptism papers of their first son John Henry who was born in 1809 for my OGS Society of First Families of Ohio award. this is last generation I need. I have the others as I received Society of Civil War Families of Ohio this past April here in Toledo, Ohio, and I have proof up to John Henry and Rachel Shepler CRIPLIVER or CRIPLEVER as it is written on Margarets tombstone. I just need that proof for John Henry to Phillip. I have the tax books for Ohio listing Phillip as owning land in North Twp and paying taxes there. I am praying that somewhere there are baptism records back to them. Maybe even John Henry and Rachels marriage will list Phillip as father. ANY PROOF PLEASE! PRETTY PLEASE! Surnames: Dodds, Pittis, Scott, Worstell Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1YB.2ACI/709 Message Board Post: In 1936 the Tappan Dam was constructed on Stillwater Creek, as part of the Muskingum Watershed Conservancy District. Tappan Lake Park is near US Rte. 250 in Harrison Co; and covers 2,350 acres of water, with 5,000 acres of adjoining land. In my paternal branch the "old Pittis/Worstell farm" is now believed to be entirely under water. In about 1945 MB Pittis, in The Pittis Genealogy, reported at pgs.141-142: Tappan, four miles north of Deersville and two miles east of Feed Spring, was platted on March 4, 1837, by John Marshall. Tappan originally was the name of the post office, the village being callled Franklin. The name Tappan derived from Benjamin Tappan who served as president judge of the Fifth Circuit in Steubenville from 1816 to 1823 and resided here. Later he was an attorney in Steubenville and a senator. The place became a village of about fifty homes and had a post office, hotel, two-room schoolhous, two churches, two general stores, blacksmith shop, carriage and wagon shop, tannery, saddle and harness shop, flour-and-feed mill , broom factory, cider press, a dentist and jeweler, photographer, two physicians and one resident preacher. It was a good produce and market center for the surrounding country, which included a large portion of the Feed Spring district.

    2. This is a Message Board Post that is gatewayed to this mailing list. Surnames: DeVault, Little, Miller Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1YB.2ACI/362.2.1 Message Board Post: Patricia: Thanks for your reply to my posting. I at one time thought perhaps my DeVault was connected to the Strausbaughs in Guernsey County, but so far have not found a connection. From Joseph Little DeVault's death certificate, I found that his father was William DeVault and his mother was Bathsheba Little. Joseph was noted as being born in Guernsey County. I found that William and Bathsheba were married on December 4, 1840, in Guernsey County also. So I figured William was born between 1810-1820, and Bathsheba was probably born about 1820. I have yet to find out William's parents or siblings, or where he was born. There is an indication that Bathsheba may be the granddaughter of Archibald Little, from a place I think is called Irish Ridge in Guernsey County. Bathsheba or Barsheba seems to be a family name for that branch of the Littles. Joseph Little DeVault m. a Mary Elizabeth Miller in Knox County, OH in 1865. Different census lists her as being born in Missouri or Indiana, and her death certificate lists her father as being John, but no name for her mother. With the name Miller, it is hard to find her family. Our local library doesn't have census listings after 1880. Do you have dates for Lewis and Samuel DeVault's births or who were their siblings? It would be great if we could make a connection there. With so many DeVaults in Guernsey County in the 1800's, there has to be a connection somewhere ! ! Marilyn

    3. Does anyone have access to deed a deed record index for the 1815-1840 period for Harrison County? I am trying to determine if any Lindsay's, (however spelled) owned land in Harrison County during this time. It is probably Green or Short Creek TWP., It is probably Thomas or Samuel Lindsay. I visited Puskarich for a few minutes the other day on a quick swing through the area, and the records there and at Schiappa (Jefferson County) are very complete and surprising in some cases. We will be going back in August to dig some more. John William Lindsay
