Oct 25, 1832. They were both from Harrison county when they married in 1913. Rachel's parents were Jesse Gwynn and Mary Ady who married in Harrison Co. June 28, 1826. I would like information on any of these persons. I am planning a trip to Harrison Co. in the near future and wonder where the best places are for genealogical information. Thank You!

    1. [OHHARRIS] Marriage of Wm Laizure & Eliz. Trickle
    2. Thank you all for helping me look for the marriage record of William and ELizabeth ca 1827-38. Even though we didn't find the marriage, it helped me come to a conclusion. Someone may benefit from my experience, so I'm posting the results. There were no records found in Guernsey, Harrison, Tuscarawas, Carroll, Belmont, & Jefferson Counties in Ohio. There were no records ound in Wood, Brooke, or Ohio counties in (W)VA. I did more research online and found that Elzabeth Trickle had families of Nathan Trickle and William Trickle living nearby in Nottingham Twp., Harrison County. It seems like she had family nearby, so why go somewhere else to marry? Just as I was deciding that the marriage was probably in Harrison County (They lived there & William has other marriages in Harrsion County in 1822 and 1840.), but was NOT SHOWING UP IN THE INDEX, I got the following email. "about your marriage record for Harrison Co. I wanted to relay an experience of mine and maybe yours might be similar. I knew that one of my gr grandfathers had been married several times I went to the courthouse to get records. They weren't listed in the index under either name so I went page by page by page and found them. Not just one but two for this same guy. This was 1820-35 time frame. I don't know what happened but they didn't seem to get indexed or added properly. I wish you luck! by the way those didn't show anything but the two names date and who married them." So next trip to Ohio, I'm going page by page through the marriage records. Thank you all so much. Sharon Laizure Hofer

    3. I had a similar experience with marriage records. They were not showing up on indexes. I got the microfilmed copy sent to my local FHC and found that the original index had detoriated so badly by the time it was filmed that large portions were missing. Also it took me quite a bit of searching to realize that not all the records were recorded the same way. As different Judges or clerks had been responsible for recording the marriages, they got entered different ways. And I found several instances where a space that normall held one record had five or six squashed all together to try and keep the chronological order correct (or so that one preacher could record all his recent marriages together). Very confusing. And I am sure that happend in other counties also. 2. Hello, I'm checking on a marriage license for Jane McCullough and William B. Laizure who were married on 7 Nov. 1822. They were married by JOSEPH ANDERSON. I'm trying to see if I can find out which church they attended and, possibly, get more records. Was Joseph a minister? Sharon Laizure Hofer

She was born June 17, 1804 and supposedly came with her parents to Harr. Co. from Reading, Pa. (Berks Co.) Was she married previously, as there is a child listed in the census that is older than their marriage? Could she be related to Thomas Stephen, born 1819, who had a dtr. Beulah Ellen? While it appears that the information has been removed, I wonder what was really on that site. Was that merely a reference to the Lilly Porter Collection saying that information was found there or was it posted entirely? If a researcher cannot post references to their entries, of what value are your books. I realize that many abuse things but am concerned about the implication of the discussion. I have researched extensively in Harrison Co and have been pleased with my results. In fact, that is reason that I became greatly involved in my local society for past ten years. Since I cannot provide information for you, I preserve the past for others in this area.

    1. [OHHARRIS] Child out of wedlock
    2. This is a long shot, but it works in some cases to identify out-of-wedlock parents. There was such a relationship in my extended family that was identified thus: The baby's grandma instigated a court action to get money from her (unmarried) daughter's father. That's how we know where the Mystery Boy came from. I had suspected an out-of-wedlock birth, but that's how it was confirmed. Occasionally a baptismal record, if you can locate it, will show the true parents, but more often will just show the mother if the parents are not married. (I found one from Scotland that said "Born from fornication". Can't you just hear those angry Scots rolling those r's in forrrnication?!) 3. I'm hoping that one of you can suggest a way that I can identify the parents of an individual, other than through the census. I have a Hiram H. Cope, born July 1837 in Nottingham Twp. In the 1850 census he appears in the household of Samuel & Jane Cope. However, he does not appear to be Samuel's son. While Hiram was bequeathed the sum of $100 in Samuel's will, Hiram was the only heir whose relationship was not mentioned - and the sum was the same given to a grand-daughter. I believe Hiram's mother to be Samuel's unmarried daughter Martha, who died when Hiram was four years old. But I don't know how to prove it. Was there some kind of record that would require the naming of parents back then? I don't think birth certificates were issued as early as 1837. Do school records exist for this area - that go back that far? Were there obits written back then? Any ideas on how to attack my "brick wall" would be greatly appreciated. I can understand how these list administrators that have several counties to do, feel. I have several leads and on my other lines and many many awesome folks who have offered to help. I have been researching for just a little under a year now, and have found many people and information. I have made many contacts and feel that I can help others with what I have. I have researched all that I can on my Heckman family until I receive proof from St. Augustine's church in Minster, Ohio as to who my Clemens's parents are, I am stuck. Right now he is an only child, and that is hard to believe. Through marriage, baptismal, probate and land contracts, and cemetery records WE KNOW HE EXISTS!!
