Good reading on keeping a level head. In Jefferson and Harrison County, we have proven sites as well as rumors. The time period fits for sure. The dry goods store was opened around 1827. I know that John Gruber sold out to Russell, and need to trace history of ownership. You have been very helpful.

    3. Hi Mary Ann! I have HEARN ancestors. They moved from Sussex Co.,DE. to Washington Co.,OH.between 1807-9.The parents were Daniel HEARN & Elizabeth"Betsy"WILSON. They had a total of 15 children but no Isiah. His parents were: Nehemiah HEARN & Jain(love the spelling)CALLOWAY. Daniel HEARN was born 22 April 1770. Daniel had 4 brothers. Their names were: Nehemiah, Azel, Nathanial & Josiah HEARN. Daniel & "Betsy" HEARN's sons were: Hiram, Josiah, Solomon, Daniel Jr., Henry, Perry, Luther, Nehemiah & Azel HEARN. Hopefully you can learn about your Isiah HEARN in either Washington Co.,OH. or Sussex Co.,DE.. You are right. Sometimes on the census it was spelled HERRON instead of HEARN. There is a HEARN Family Book online but I can't remember the address at the moment. If I come up with it I will send it to you. I hope I have been of some help. I know plenty about brick walls! 1. [OHHARRIS] Re: Catherine Hardsock
    2. Hi, Martha. Just want to pass on a little tidbit about the Hardsock Family that I found in Ralph E. Tuttle's book. He wrote: "Catherine was born about 1806 in Pennsylvania probably a daughter of Daniel Hardsock and died in 1885 in German Township, Harrison County. According to U.S. Census records, Daniel Hardsock and his family lived in Harrison County in the early 1800's." p. 62. This is from The Cole Family of Jefferson County, Ohio: With Some Ancestors and Descendants Compiled by Ralph E. Tuttle, June 24, 1990. Revision B-1: December 27, 1994. Not published. 475 Ursa Avenue Merritt Island, FL 32953. There have been further updates but I don't have them. As the title suggests, he tells more about Thomas and Catherine Cole's children. Hope this is helpful. Brian L. Cole Researching Coles from England to MD to OH

    1. [OHHARRIS] Norquest Barn Fire Sept. 1939
    2. A famous event in my mother's family, the Norquests, was the fire that destroyed the huge barn on their land before they bought it in 1929. This fire started Sept. 13, 1939 and it was supposed to have burned for weeks. Though not wishing to divulge anyone's birthday, I'd like to ask if you were living in or near Cadiz during 1939, if you ever heard about the fire? If you did, would you please write me? Also do you have easy access to the Cadiz paper's archives? Could you please check the paper around that time for any mention of the fire. I tried at the Ohio Historical Center and they didn't have that microfilm. I can pay a modest fee for lookup and copying. Brian L. Cole Researching Coles from England to MD to OH

    1. [OHHARRIS] John Haun/Hone and John Shilling
    2. Is there anyone on the list researching John Haun/Hone or John Shilling. I found John Hone on the 1840 census Harrison Co., German Twp. living next door to John Shilling. Then in the 1850 John is missing but Catherine Haun in listed with children that fit ages from the 1840 census along with an 87 year old John Shilling. I believe John Shilling is the father of Catherine Haun. Can anyone verify this. Trying to find the ancestry of Margaret and Catherine Haun who later marry Gotschall/Gutshall brothers.
