Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1YB.2ACI/618.2.1.1.1.1.1 Message Board Post: Okay: 1. John Fowler, s/o John Fowler & Mary Huff, md Cassandra Keepers. 2. Elizabeth Fowler, d/o John Fowler & Mary Huff, md John Spray. According to a history I found of John Spray Jr at Ancestry.com, Elizabeth Fowler Spray was born abt 1804 and died abt 1834 when John Spray Jr was just a baby. John Spray Sr remarried to Elizabeth (Betsey) Ryan, had three more children, and then died around 1842, when John Jr was just 8-years-old. 3. John Spray Jr, s/o John Spray & Elizabeth Fowler, md Clarissa Fowler, d/o Garrett Fowler & Hannah Eagleson, grd/o John Fowler & Mary Huff. I saw a listing on Ancestral File at familysearch.org that said John Fowler md 1st Elizabeth Keepers, then her sister, Cassandra Keepers. That confused me though, because in the history of William V Keepers (father to Elizabeth & Cassandra), it says Cassandra Keepers married John Fowler, and Elizabeth Keepers married Thomas Orr and had children Alexander & Taylor Orr. The Orr marriage makes more sense to me, because there is a Robert Orr, J.P. in Harrison County Ohio, who performed the marriage between my gg-grandfather's sister Elizabeth Jeffers and Dominick Havener in 1823. I've run across the Orr name other places around my family as well. If you've got access to an LDS FHC, the Keepers history is in the book "Portrait & Biographical Record of Tuscarawas County Ohio", p223. The LDS FHC call number is 977.166 D3p. And yes, wreath is a good term - sometimes I think of it as a big plate of spaghetti.

    1. [OHHARRIS] 1860 Census Question
    2. Laurence E. Dickerson
    3. I am wondering whether anyone has a more legible copy of the 1860 census of Short Creek Township than the one in the Wisconsin State Historical Society. I found the entry for the family of David Crumley, but I can not make out the name of one of the children. In his household are: David Crumley, 35, M, Farmer, Ohio Susanna, 33, F, Ohio Mary M., 8, F, Ohio ?? A name that looks like 'Alverdon J.,' though that seems unlikely. Might it be Abraham, perhaps? He was four years old. Henry H., 2, M, Ohio William P., 11/12, M, Ohio If anyone can make out that name, I would be most interested. Larry Dickerson

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1YB.2ACI/618.2.1.1 Message Board Post: Thanks for the quick response. I've been corresponding with Curt Sytsma for awhile - although he hasn't responded to my last couple of e-mails - trying to find a connection between his McCombs ancestors and mine. Looking at the names in Hugh McDonough's will, along with the FGS Curt put out for James & Marcy Hoagland McDonough, the connection is so close, and yet so far. My gg-grandfather's sister Jane Jeffers (b 1794) married Christopher Hines - brother to Jacob Hines? Maybe, maybe not. William & Sallie McDonough Sproul purchased land from John & Eliza Steeves, daughter & son-in-law to my gg-grandfather's sister Sarah Jeffers (m 1.Girt, 2.Ely, 3.Canaga); in 1849, Sproul's sold the property to John McLandsborough, either father-in-law or husband to Sarah's second daughter, Catharine. In 1845, Aden McDonough married Mary Canaga, step-daughter to Sarah Jeffers. Marcy McDonough's husband Andrew McLandsborough, is brother to Sarah Jeffers' son-in-law, John McLandsborough. Then, of course, there's the somewhat distant connection between Sarah Jeffers' family and the Maxwell's. With all those connections to my known relatives, it seems reasonable that Susann McDonough's husband Abraham H. McCombs is related to my gg-grandmother, Elizabeth McCombs Jeffers - BUT, I can't find a definite connection! VERY FRUSTRATING! Since my direct line apparently didn't own pencil and paper, I really appreciate people like you on my collateral lines, doing and posting research.
