The last time i wrote Judy the mail came back. I looked for these old cemetery records for the Ridge Cemetery and have had no success. My wife and i attended services at the Ridge church October 2001 and afterwards were allowed to look at some old records in their files that they did not know what they had or what they were about. I did not find any old cemetery records or a map or list of who bought the plots in the Ridge cemetery. I also have the numbers and names of the trustees for Harrison County and have talked to a Mr. Rose one of the trustees and he said they have the records for the new side of the Ridge cemetery but not the old ones. When i was in Harrison this October looking for deeds i asked if they had records of the Ridge Cemetery and they did not. The only books they had were from the people who walked the cemeterys in Harrison and wrote down the names on the stones. I ! go back every year so i will be checking again because i believe it could be somewhere that no one knows what it is or since the ridge church once was held in many places or peoples homes before the church was built then it could be in a attic somewhere. My 5th great grandmother Elizabeth Willliams was buried there in February 1850 so there must have been a record then. Judy when we looked at the records at the ridge church i believe there was some Buchanans mentioned and my wife wrote them down. I will check this out. The records showed where members were admitted to church when married ,died ect and when some were kicked out of the church. J.R. Maxwell did you have some Meeks marry into your family?? Contact me i have some questions and i have been given some info that my 5th great grandmother Elizabeth williams was a Meeks and her brother or one family member married a Maxwell. Like Judy said these records arent forgotten we are still looking.
Can anyone tell me what Franklin Township was called in the 1820 census? I can't find it. Thank you, Kevin

I am leaving this morning for a few days so will go thru all the information and get back with you when I get home and get back with you then. Just want you to know I appreciate all the information. Hi, My great-great grandfather, Samuel Gamble, married a Susannah Heavilin. She was born in Harrison County, Ohio. She's in the 1880 census in Salt Creek, Reno, Kansas. Do you have any information on her or a Daniel Heavilin, married to Mary Gamble in your Kansas research? Daniel and Mary are in Hayes, Franklin, Kansas in the 1880 census. I show Enoch Jackson Heavilin being the son of Samuel Heavilin (1800) and Margaret Beeman. Samuel Heavilin (1800) is the son of Samuel Heavilin (1772) and Mary Layport (Laporte). Samuel Heavilin (1772) had a brother, Stephen, who married Margaret Laporte. Stephen was the grandfather of Susannah Heavilin, who married into the Gamble family in Harrison County, Ohio. Cheryl

HEAVILIN (Haveland, Hevlin, Hevelend, etc.) Never in my life have I seen a name spelled so many different ways. In his Last Will and Testament, written in 1908, the attorney who had wrote it repeatedly spelled the name as Heveland while Jackson signed it as Heavilin. His tombstone in Greenwood Cemetery reads J. E. Haveland. Various newspaper articles and his obituary show his name as Heavilin and occasionally as Hevlin. Nevertheless, I know these things about him: He was born in Ohio in 1933, he married Sarah Ann McClary in Indiana in 1856, he served in the 89th Indiana Infantry in the Civil War. He and Sarah moved to Chautauqua County Kansas in 1885 where he was owned a farm. He retired from farming and built a house in Sedan, Kansas and died there in 1909. He is buried in the Greenwood Cemetery, Sedan, KS. His daughter Elmira Belle Heavilin was my great grandmother. She married a Wi! lliam D. Copple. If you are interested and think this is your Enoch Jackson Heaviline, please let me know and I can pass along some documented information if you like. I am interested in going backwards from them now as I know most of the information from the time they moved to Kansas. Thank you in advance for any help you can give me. Linda Beason
I was checking for Martha Maxwell (nee Crossen), widow of Robert Maxwell, in the 1880 census. This family moved from Harrison Co.,OH to Washington Co.,IA. I found her in Crawford twnshp, by searching for her as an individual. The problem is that George Auld, her son-in-law and her daughter, Martha (nee Maxwell)- with whom she was indeed living- are listed as NELD in the online 1880 census at www.familysearch.org I hope this info. saves someone else some time. That Robert Maxwell was a descendant of Thomas, who was the brother to my ancestor Robert Maxwell. Thomas & Robert were sons of Henry Maxwell & Agness Carson. J.R. Maxwell Delaware Co.,OH

I'm 99% sure that they were the grandparents of my Rachel Hollett Kennedy, wife of Alexander B. Kennedy, and daughter of George and Clarissa Vallow Hollett. Alexander and Rachel farmed Vallow Knob in Tuscarawas Co. before they moved on to Illinois. Their first son was named Stephen Vallow Kennedy. Pretty good evidence, don't you think ? Would love o find a will, obit, burial, etc of Stephen and Katherine.

He published his History of Ohio shortly afterwards. Then later, in the 1880s, he revisited each county and updated all of his previous notes and made many, many drawings. He then almost totally re-wrote the entire book and republished it in 1886 in a two-volume set containing nearly 1000 pages. He has general history chapters and then he has a separate chapter devoted to each of the 88 counties in Ohio. The Ottawa County Historical Museum has reprints of each of the county chapters as well as several other publications and used books. Please email the Museum or Curator for more information.
