    1. [OHHARRIS] HARRISON MILLER FULLY CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. Kevin Borland
    3. OK, so the mystery is solved once and for all!!!! Harrison Miller was the son of David Miller and Mary Schultz!!!!! I had him pegged to Catherine Schultz before because he was acting as if he was a Hoobler. Of course he was going to give information that exactly matches the Hoobler Schultz family. That's because the two mothers had nearly exactly the same information. They both came from Loudound County, VA, for example. Their births weren't too far apart. They both lived near eachoter. David Miller even sold the Hooblers their land! The proof is in this time. I even found the marriage record in 1813. Harrison also had a brother Daniel who married Margaret Foose. He had other brothers and sisters, but I don't know their names yet. David Miller was the son of John & Catherine Miller. Mary Schultz was the daughter of George Schultz and Elizabeth Shoemaker. To sum it up, these are the ancestors of Samuel Hoobler Miller that set foot on Harrison County soil: ------------- |-John Miller |-David Miller-| | |-Catherine ? (some genealogies say maiden name Barnhart) |-Harrison Miller-| | | |-George Schultz | |-Mary Schultz-| | |-Elizabeth Shoemaker Samuel Hoobler Miller -| | |-Benjamin Wheeler II | |-Mordecai Wheeler-| | | |-Eleanor Bosley |-Mary Ann Wheeler-| | |-Benjamin M. Gill |-Keziah Murray Gill-| |-Jemima Murray I have some of these lines back much further, so if anyone can connect, that would be great! Thanks for all your help. I couldn't have come this far without the help of many of the people on this list, and especially the in-person help of Mr. Sparrow, on 2 of my trips out to Harrison County. It seems I'm finally done with researching my ancestors in Harrison County. I still have some work there, like Harrison's brothers and linking up as many of the descendants of my family lines, but all of my ancestors can now be traced to specific counties in other locations. It's been wonderful working with so many of you, and I will keep myself as a member of the list, in hope that I will be able to connect with others that share common ancestors. Thank you all & I hope I can make some more connections. Sincerely, Kevin Borland

Classification: Query Message Board URL: http://boards.ancestry.com/mbexec/msg/rw/1YB.2ACI/833 Message Board Post: To the best of my knowledge the two churches in Deersville, Ohio were Presbyterian and Methodist. The original frame structures, according to M.B.Pittis, were replaced by brick buildings: the Methodist in 1883 and the Presbyterian in 1879 (pg.136 The Pittis Genealoogy). By ca.1945 the Presbyterian Church had closed and the Methodist Church had become a community center (pg.140). The Rev. Samuel Patterson, D.D. (1827-1906) served the Presbyterian Church from 1856 to 1906 (pg.138). Sorrry, no notes on the Methodist minister.

    1. [OHHARRIS] Re: Catharine Shultz Hoobler
    2. Kevin, Catherine Shultz Hoobler was a sister to my third Great-grandfather, Solomon Shultz. Their parents were George Shultz and Elizabeth Shoemaker. I have George Shultz' original final estate papers which lists all of his children. The papers were saved by the Harrison County Genealogical Society and their wonderful volunteers located them for me on one of my visits. I've done some research on Catherine and her husband, Michael Hoobler. Their marriage record which I found at the Harrison County Courthouse states they were married October 26, 1813. I also have Catherine's death notice from the newspaper (the Harrison County Democrat, dated January 13, 1897) and a picture of her headstone (and Michael's) that I located at Zion Cemetery, German Twp. Catherine was born October 8, 1794 and died January 6, 1897. Catherine's obituary does not list her children other than her son, David, with whom she was living at the time. It does say she was the mother of ten children, six of whom are living. It mentions the fact the her husband, Michael Hoobler, has been dead for twenty-five years. There is no mention of an earlier husband. If you would like copies of any of these documents please let me know. I have a scanner and I can email them to you. I must tell you that her obituary has a sketch of her as she looked on her 100th birthday. That is a pretty rare thing in those days but she was the oldest Harrison County resident at the time of her death. Sharen Shultz Bowers in Columbus, Ohio

    3. Problem with Catherine being the mother! Uh oh. I just found out that Catherine had a daughter with Michael Hoobler in 1816 or 1817. How can that be? Do you think they adopted Harrison? What's going on here? Any ideas?

    1. RE: [OHHARRIS] HARRISON MILLER 100% CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. Kevin Borland
    3. Just a correction to the last e-mail about Harrison Miller. I've had evidence come in today that my best theory about Harrison's father is in fact incorrect. While he may be a brother of Andrew Miller (married to Margaret Everhart), and Peter Miller (married Catherine and had a different son Harrison), they are NOT part of the George Absalom Miller family. Moreover, George's brother Jacob did not die young, so it's not my man. However, there is a strong possibility that there is a relationship between my Harrison's father and Andrew and Peter, but there is no proof yet. But, I was incorrect in saying that there were only 2 Miller families in German Township in the 1810s, while there were actually (at least) 3. The new information about Harrison's mother being Catherine is not a mistake however. I'm still looking into whether or not she was a Schultz. Kevin

    3. Hello lists, Can you help find Rev. J.N. Ekey? I'm trying to find out what church the Reverend J. N. Ekey would have been affiliated with. He was the minister who performed the service for my Great Great Grandfather Duncan OLIPHANT who died in 1868. I'm not sure which county to look in. Duncan was shown living in Mill Twp. Tuscarawas County in the 1860 census, but he is buried in the Old Deersville Cemetery, Deersville, Harrison County, Ohio. I would like to find Rev. Ekey's church, so I can try to find if my Great Great Grandmother Sarah ( Beamer ) Oliphant was still alive and with Duncan. Thank you, John D. Ledrich

    1. [OHHARRIS] HARRISON MILLER 100% CONNECTED!!!!!!!!!!!
    2. Kevin Borland
    3. I've finally found a definate answer to part of the Harrison Miller puzzle. I found his mom, and there's no speculation involved. It's an absolute definite match! Harrison Miller (husband of Mary Ann Wheeler and Elizabeth Birchfield Story) had a mother named Catherine! So did the other Harrison Miller in Harrison County, coincidentally. The Catherine that was the mother of my Harrison Miller had her only Miller son Harrison 1818, and then the father (probably Jacob Miller) died either 1818 or 1819, probably while Harrison was an infant. Catherine immediately re-married Michael Hoobler. Harrison also had a son Samuel Hoobler Miller, named after one of his half-brothers! Rumor has it that Catherine's maiden name was Schultz, but I haven't found any first-hand evidence of her maiden name yet. Michael Hoobler was, however, living next to the Schultz family in the 1820 census in German Township, so it's very likely. I just sent an e-mail to the source of the maiden-name information to request whatever evidence he may have. Catherine Schultz/Miller/Hoobler lived to be 102 years old! She's burried just a few plots away from Harrison Miller's first wife! Finding Harrison's father should prove to be quite a challenge, though, since he came to Harrison County (from PA) after 1810, but died before the 1820 census. I'm not sure how to go about this. However, there were only 2 early Miller families in German Township. One was from MD, and the other was from PA. So, my Harrison Miller's father was probably a brother of Peter Miller & Andrew Miller & George Absalom Miller. Note that Peter Miller was the father of the other Harrison Miller, which works out nicely. Andrew Miller was my first suspect to be Harrison's dad because he named one of his kids John K. Miller, as did Harrison. Andrew, however has been proven not to be the father, but it's nice that they are probably the same family! Everything would fit! We have one more clue too. One genealogy says that there was another Miller brother (of Andrew, Peter, etc. generation) named Jacob. Nobody knows what became of him. Harrison had a son Jacob C. Miller!!!!! This might be the missing link! So, to sum it up (after years and years of ordering films, searching through censuses, visiting Harrison County), Harrison Miller had a mother named Catherine, and he was probably the son of Jacob Miller and Catherine Schultz. If this is interesting to anyone, please contact me. If anybody is researching the Schultz family or the Millers of York County, PA, that would help me a lot too! Thanks, Kevin Borland
