    1. RE: [OHHARRIS] Re: Absalom KENT
    2. Tom
    3. Hi there I have the KENTs back to the early 1700s and don't show only one of the Absalom's having a daughter named Mary. The Absalom KENT you mention in 1805 was the son of Absalom KENT and Ann or Nancy or Nancy Ann UNKNOWN. They were believed to have been killed during a Native American raid in Old Town, Allegany Co. Maryland about 1765. It is said that the family then moved to PA and then on to the Cadiz area early in the 1800s. Absalom #2 was a Rev. War Vet (Westmorland Co.. Militia PA) and is buried in the Spiker priv cem, Stock Twp, Harrison Co OH. (Row 4, Grave 20)Absalom #2 was said to be married to a Tabitha HUNTER (no documentation on this has been found that I know of)... They were married in Fayette Co. PA before moving to Jefferson Co. (this part soon became Harrison Co.) OH. I might add that there are perhaps a dozen or so Absalom KENTs in this family. Absalom KENT #3 was said to have married a 1st Mary ROBINSON and 2nd Mary HART. Absalom KENT #2 had another son named Joseph KENT who married a Nancy Ann (some say PERRIN and others contend it was PERKINS, no proof either way) They also had a son named Absalom KENT who married Isabella WORTH on 04 Oct 1821 in Harrison CO. OH. Other Absalom KENT marriages were as best I can tell: Absalom KENT m. 1st Mary WORMAN date unknown. (This is the Absalom KENT who had a daughter named Mary) 2nd Mary WALKER 05 Dec 1833. 3rd Sarah TRAUB about 1848. This Absalom KENT was the son of Absalom KENT (Mentioned above was the s/o Absalom KENT and Tabitha HUNTER)and Mary HART. Getting back to your question about Mary KENT... It would I think go this way. Absalom KENT and Nancy Unknown.... Absalom KENT and Tabitha HUNTER... Absalom KENT and Mary WORMAN... Mary KENT. Not sure if this helps or confuses.... Tom C. 1. [OHHARRIS] CRUMLEY
    2. Judy Ardine
    3. William CRUMLEY, son of James CRUMLEY, was born in Chester County, PA probably around 1735. He went to Frederick County, Va as a teenager with his family. There he married 2nd Hannah MERCER, daughter of Edward and Ann MERCER. In 1757, he acquired from his father 270 acres at the southern end of the Lord Fairfax tract, in what is now Berkeley County, West Virginia. Like his father, he was a member of the Parish Vestry, serving in 1759. After Hannah MERCER's death around 1773, William CRUMLEY married Sarah DUNN, daughter of James and Jane DUNN. It is unlikely that he was active in the Quaker church because in 1774 after his marriage to Sarah, the Hopewell Frinds disowned her for marrying "contrary to discipine." William CRUMLEY had a wife #1 and a wife #3 who was Sarah DUNN- but I've never worked his other wives. Wife # 2, Hannah MERCER, died about 1774 and had 5 children with William CRUMLEY: William, James, Catherine, Ann and Aaron. Hannah MERCER was Catherine CRUMLEY's mother. Catherine CRUMLEY md: John EYRE c 1793 in Martinsburg, West Virginia. John EYRE d: 16 Dec 1803 in Paxton twp, Ross cnty, OH. Catherine CRUMLEY md: 2nd James MOONEY. Catherine CRUMLEY d: 23 Dec 1857 in OH. Not the information you were asking for but possibly of interest to you.

    2. Sandra Ferguson
    3. I am exploring the theory that Ruth Ann FRAME (1818-1900) might have been from Harrison County, and possibly from a Quaker family. I have NO idea of her parents' names, and would like to know a few county things; (1) what would the local Quaker meeting have been, in the county...their names, and location (2) any Frame/Fromm/Frommes in the county that might have been her family. As a married adult, she an her husband, Elisha Phipps NEWLIN, and children moved to Belmont county, ca 1857, from Chester County, Pa, where Elisha was a scion of the NEWLIN family that had been there since emigrating there with Wm. Penn, in 1683. However, I know nothing of Ruth Ann and her family. Elisha and Ruth Ann's eldest child, Elizabeth, was said on several census, to have been born in OHIO (1840), indicating that perhaps Elisha and Ruth Ann had been in OHIO earlier, before the move in 1857...so, it's conceivable that Ruth Ann was actually from Ohio, and THAT'S why I can't find anything about her in PA.. So, any Quaker or Frame info would be appreciated. Sandra

    1. [OHHARRIS] Shuss in Harrison Co.
    2. I am not aware of any Shuss/Hoobler marriages.I have branches of each in my tree. You should look around at www.Hoobler.com Several of the Hoobler men had multiple marriages; it is often difficult to keep their children and grand-children clear. Another option is that they all belonged to either the Lutheran Church at Germano or the Lutheran Church at Jewett, and were probably acting as Godparents for each others children. J.R. Maxwell

    1. [OHHARRIS] HENRY Surname
    2. Wolff, Taj
    3. I'm new to your list and trying to help a cousin with his HENRY line. I'm looking for information on the following family, particularly the parents of James HENRY. Here's what I know about him. James HENRY b. ca. 1814 in Westmoreland Co., PA, d. 17 Sept. 1895 in Tuscarawas Co. OH, m. Catherine UNKNOWN(possibly HENDRICKS) b. 1817 d. 8 Sept. 1902 in Tuscarawas Co. OH The earliest I've found him in OH is 1840 census in Harrison Co. In 1850, he's in Harrison Co. OH, Stock Twp. Flat Rock. I think his father may be Robert HENRY, but I have no proof of that yet. If the Robert who lives near him in the 1840 census is his father, I suspect he may have died between 1840 and 1850. In the 1840 census he is between 60 and 70. His wife is between 50 and 60. Children of James and Catherine HENRY (there are rumored to be 13, this is all I have found so far). William b. ca. 1839 Robert b. ca. 1838 Thomas b. ca. 1841 James b. ca. 1845 Margaret Jane b. ca. 1844 Elizabeth b. 1846-1849 m. William Gowin Martha b. ca. 1849 Sally b. 1859 John E. b. Dec. 1863 in Leesville, Carroll Co. OH, d. Uhrichsville, OH 1935 I searched your list archives but didn't come up with a match. I'd appreciate any help. Hoping someone connects with this family. Also, are there books, etc for sale by the Harrison Co. Gen Society? I didn't find anything on the web. I've purchased some from Tuscarawas Co and done some research in person there. Anyone with suggestions on resources would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, ---------------------------------------------------------------- Taj Wolff

    1. [OHHARRIS] George SHUSS & RE: George Shultz' final estate papers
    2. Kevin Borland
    3. OK, so I've done more work now. It appears not only was there a George Shultz in the German Township/Rumley Township area, but also a George Shuss! If Mary Shuss belongs to this family, it explains Harrison's son Jacob C. Miller (named hafter Harrison's uncle Jacob Condo who married a Shuss), but it unexplains why he behaves like a Hoobler. The Shuss family was from York, PA, not from VA, so how was Harrison's mother born in VA like he claims. It appears he actually was talking about Michael Hoobler and Catherine Schultz. After all, he did name a son Samuel Hoobler Miller too! So what's going on here? I'm very, very confused now. The Shus family lived in York, PA since before 1790! Odds are, George Shuss was married there, since he was living next door to the Ruleman family, and his wife's maiden name is supposed to be Ruseman. So I'm still trying to figure out: Why does Harrison Miller act like the son of a Hoobler, dispite having never lived with the Hooblers, and dispite me having figured out the parents already. Was there a Shuss/Hoobler marriage? I know there was a Hoobler/Miller marriage, but that was a cousin of Harrison, not a brother, sister or aunt/uncle, so it seems strange that he would have used the name. It's more strange why he says his dad was from PA and mom from VA, when I already know his dad was from MD (or a slim possibility from PA) and his mother was from PA! He appears to be referring to the Hoobler info! I'm absolutely sure the mother was this Mary Shuss too. Everything else fits. Not just the Jacob Condo bit, but another sister married a Whitmore, and that family named one of their children Harrison Whitmore Kail! That's another Harrison in the same family. Can you shed any more light? -----Original Message----- From: Sha1948605@aol.com [mailto:Sha1948605@aol.com] Sent: Sunday, January 26, 2003 7:35 PM To: kborland@comcast.net Subject: Re: George Shultz' final estate papers Kevin, If you need me to transcribe this page for you let me know. I don't know if it will come through good enough for you to read or not. When my sister and I were at the Harrison Co. Genealogical Society last fall we took our laptop and scanner so we could get the best copies possible. I would suggest that the next time you visit the genealogical society you ask to see George Shultz' final estate papers. They keep them in the basement but it didn't take the volunteers very long to locate them for us. Understandably, the papers were very fragile but in remarkably good condition. I think the society is closed now until spring. You can check their web site. Sorry I couldn't be of any more help. Please keep me updated on what you find out. It sure is a mystery. Were there two Mary Shultz' born in Loudoun Co. VA in Harrison Co. at the same time? I don't know of George Shultz having any siblings in the area. In fact, I don't know any of George's siblings nor his parents' names. I do know that George fought in the Revolutionary War with the Pennsylvania militia, Berks Co. under Captain Peter Nagel. The family came from Harper's Ferry, VA to Harrison Co., Ohio in 1804. They settled in German Twp. The marriage of Mary Elizabeth Shultz and Daniel Shawver on June 6, 1808 Jefferson Co., Ohio, was found in the IGI Batch No. M514371. Please let me know how the attachments came through to you.
