Many of the churches are still there; yes, they are now United Methodist Churches. You will need to determine which UB church, and then which UMC it became. You can then write to the church and ask about the records. If you don't know which name it became, or which church it merged with, you can contact the local district office. The United Bretheran conference and district records (few local church records) are in the UMC archives. See www.gcah.org for how to obtain clergy obituaries and who has the archives in a given area. Also, check at www.owu.edu ---- click on library, and then go to church archives. Ohio Wesleyan has many East Ohio and West Ohio conference records; they are NOT yet fully indexed however. I was able to obtain a 1944 obit for Minnie Agnes Worstell (m. George Hall, 2nd m. GK Harman) from the GCAH. She first joined a UB church in Emporia, KS; graduated from Otterbein College; was ordained and served at Custer, St.Mary's and Johnsville, Wallbridge & Mt. Zion, in Ohio & was "sent West" as a missionary to Laredo and Harlem, Montana. She died in Puenta, Calif. and is buried in the Feed Spring cemetary. J.R. I just noticed that there are some Harrison county publications listed at Ebay in case any are interested. Listed are two death index volumes, a marriage index volume, and an original historical collections. I am not involved with the selling of these and just wanted to let others know they are available at Ebay. Just type in "harrison county oh" and harrison historical and you should be able to find them. Researching John Lawrence Snyder, Oliver Slates, Philip Harding, Winnings family, Austin Porter, Nathaniel Fisher, Clifford Heavilin. I have some original Snyder letters written in the mid 1800's that am willing to share. Also, have a picture of Adam Snyder and Philip Harding that can scan and send - these were copied from originals in the possession of Richard Culler.
Does anyone know if there are any records for the United Brethren Church in Harrison Co. My understanding is United Brethren merged with United Methodist in 1968. I'm looking for records in the early 1800s. Thanks, ----------------------------------------------------------------- Taj Wolff
