I'm not familiar with this book. Can anyone tell me what it means when someone is listed and another county and state are after their name? Is it a land patent in the OTHER state or is it that the person is FROM the other state? Any help is appreciated. After doing reasearch on the Best family in Canton the LDS @ http://www.familysearch.org came on line with the 1880 census and you can find the same results I found in Canton. Christian B.Best and his wifeonly had two Daughters and three sons. On Jason L.Best second marriage if you want a marriage certificate you can send for it at the Garfield County Oklahoma Genealogy Socitey. It cost is five bucks!
I have been corresponding with my 82 year old uncle and his wife about my mother's side of the family. He wrote me this about threshing dinners and gave me permission to share it with you. There were threshing day dinners as Thelma remembers. We had fields of wheat and oats to be threshed...also grew fields of corn and soy beans. These crops were used to feed our livestock. The neighboring farmers all helped each other at threshing time (sort of a "threshing circle"), and a man named Mr. Wells had the "local" threshing machine. He was paid $/bushel, but I don't remember how much. The farmers' wives also helped each other when it was Threshing Day at their farm, and each took pride in serving a bountiful harvest table. Mom and the girls baked and cooked and prepared days in advance to assure that no one went away hungry. The "Threshing Circle" was discontinued just before or during W.W.II [he has since wrote and told me that they continued after the war] with the advent of the more efficient combine and the delicious Threshing Day Dinners became a wonderful memory. Does it jar anybody's memory? Does anyone know Mr. Wells? How much was he paid? I assume this was a steam engine driven thresher. Is that right? What can you share about this memory? Brian L. Date of death Jan4,1928 in Canton,Ohio. Now we come to this point Ross A.McClain alone found the Best Family descendants and no one in Ohio or the State of OR. The World family Tree of the BEST at Ancestry.com is a false family Tree. Ross A.McClain the great grand son of Christian B.Best of Germano,Ohio.
I have posted the BEST and Frye on this site with pictures. Search for Best in Ohio, and Texas.
I was doing reasearch in Greene County Penn because we had a picture of my grand mother Elva Jane Best taken their. A woman in Fl hit me fer name was Ester Frye and ask if Elva Jane Best was a sister of Mary Melissa Best. I was taken back in findig this person and I think Gods hand was on the post. Ester sent me the Frye family from Lorane Framce to Penna to Ohio. We still talk to each other and she is so kind christian person. The Harrison County Libary sent me a short obit on Mary Ann Best and it stated That she had visted her son Jason L.Best in Enid,Oklahoma ant that is Garfield County. So I had three papers on Jason L.Best. A woman in Waco,Texas searched the Census in Oklahoma and Texas and she found them for me. This is how i found live cousins in Bryant,Texas near Franklin,Texas where Jason L. Best is buried in Franklin Cemetery. Now on Uncle Charles M. Best obit I was able to locate a descendant Dewayne Best in upper Ohio and we also talk back and forth.
