Samuel was born about 1824 in Washington County, Pa. Susanna was born in Harrison County, Ohio in 1828. They married in Harrison County in 1847. Their children are: John Lucy Hugh Stephen H. Solomon William M. Albert Annie Ellen Samuel H. (marries Viola Jones) Wilson George Sometime in the 1870's, they leave Ohio. In the 1880 census, Susanna appears in Kansas. Her two oldest children, Lucy and John, have remained in Ohio. Samuel is assumed to have died between 1870 and 1880, but I haven't been able to find out when or where. Does anyone have any information on whether Samuel died in Harrison County or not? I have a family group sheet listing Susanna as dying June 21, 1883 in Bates County, Missouri. I am trying to fill in the details of their move from Ohio to Kansas to Missouri. Does anyone have any information that might help me? Also, the family group sheet found in the Carroll County Ohio Gen. Soc. was prepared by Kent R. Wells, grandson of the Samuel Gamble who marries Viola Jones. I have been unable to find him to compare notes. Does anyone know how to get ahold of him? Please contact me if you want to share information or can help me. Thanks, Cheryl Gamble Barlan KCBENT@aol.com

Mary was born about 1808 in Pa. She married Daniel Heavilin Nov. 5, 1840 in Harrison County, Ohio. They had children Rachel (1839) and Samuel (1846). In 1880, they are in Hayes, Franklin, Kansas. Does anyone know where they are buried or have an obit or will for either of them? I am looking for anything that would help me identify the parents of Mary. It's possible that she's a daughter of John Gamble (b. 1779 Washington Co., Pa & d. 1865 in Ohio) and unknown wife (possibly Margaret). Thanks for any help. You can e-mail me at KCBENT@aol.com Cheryl

My ancestor Philip CARREL died in December 1813 while in the army, probably of typhus. He had enlisted in the regular army in the spring of 1813 for 5 years. He left a widow and nine small children in the Jefferson/Harrison/Carroll county area. Records in the Jefferson County Courthouse states that the widow relinquished her rights to administer her husband's estate (she could neither read nor write), and the court appointed Ephraim Cellars as administrator. Also later the children, all minors, were in court at Steubenville choosing a legal guardian who was James Torrence. NARA cannot find any widow's pension application but did find a Certificate for Bounty Land Warrant No. 715 with the guardian James Torrence (Tarrance) as Warrantee, dated 1816, and listed Philip Carroll as the soldier. Also that the Bounty Land was relinquished in lieu of 5-years half-pay. Philip's regular army service records gives his death date and adds a note "See Pension Case & Book 600". Aside from going back to NARA, can anyone say what that note means? Thank you for your attention, Eric Olson

Does anyone have access to wills of Harrison County? I need the will for Elijah McClenaghan McClenigan McClanigan who had died by 1830. He was in Harrison County in the 1820 census. His widow was in Tuscarawas County Dohrman Township by the 1830 census but I think he died in Harrison County. I had filed SAR supplemental papers for my son, John Taylor, and they want proof that Mary Maria McClenigan is the daughter of Elijah. Hopefully the will will so state. She married Isaiah Welch June 14, 1831 in Tuscarawas County. Thanks so much. I will be happy to pay any copying costs, research costs, etc. Robin Taylor
