    1. [OHHARRIS] Town of Vienna in Harrison County
    2. Laurence E. Dickerson
    3. Is anyone familiar with a village called Vienna in Harrison County? I came across an 1837 deed referring to Vienna, but I know of no such place. I presume it was once platted, but never developed - at least not under that name. From the information in the deed, the location appears to have been in the extreme northeast corner of Moorefield Township, near Cassville. The list of villages in Hanna's 'Historical Collections' does not mention either Vienna or Cassville. Of the parties to the deed, I know nothing of Thomas Walker, but Alexander and Rebecca (Dunlap) Hamilton are buried at Nottingham. I am attempting to determine whether Alexander was a son of William Hamilton and Elizabeth Dickerson. They did have a son named Alexander, but I have not yet been able to prove whether he was the Alexander of this deed, or the one who lived in Green Township. The Alexander buried at Nottingham was born c. 1800. The one in Green Township was born about 1816, and also lived near an Eli Hamilton. [William and Elizabeth also had a son named Eli], yet the family also appears to have been associated with the Presbyterian Church generally and with Nottingham specifically, so there is evidence on both sides. If anyone has any information on the family, I would be most interested. The deed is appended below. Thank you. Larry Dickerson Harrison County Deeds, Book H, pp. 423-424 Deed: Alexander Hamilton to Thomas Walker This Indenture made this fifth day of January in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and thirty seven by and between Alexander Hamilton and Rebecca his wife of the County of Harrison and State of Ohio of the first part, and Thomas Walker of the County and State aforesaid of the second part. It should probably read 'are in possession.' That is still awkwardly phrased, but sounds a little better.....
