    3. Nancy, this is most likely a typo of Cow Pox, which is a mild relative of Smallpox. If you were innoculated with Cowpox, you were unlikely to contract Smallpox later. I think the vaccine is still made from Cowpox today. -------Original Message------- From: Grannynancy38@aol.com Sent: 08/27/03 11:18 AM To: OHHARRIS-L@rootsweb.com Subject: [OHHARRIS] cox pox > > Why was there A pox called cox.I had family in that area and am interested in learning about them.Looking for parents of William Cox ,death ofWilliam and son Elisha.Any help will be greatly appriciated. 3. I suspect one of the following women had a child with one of my ancestors out of wedlock before she was married. The following are listed in the 1850 census. I need the rest of the maiden names. Do any of these women (all born in VA) belong to anyone else on the list? NEED MAIDEN NAME & PRIME SUSPECT -------------------------------- Elizabeth (wife of Samuel Potts) born about 1799 in VA *** #1 suspect since she's living next to the illigitimate child's house in the 1850 census *** NEED MAIDEN NAMES ----------------- Mary (wife of ? Polen) born about 1798 in Loudoun County, VA Nancy (wife of ? Baird) born about 1798 in Brook Count, VA Ruth (wife of Samuel Gotshall) born about 1803 in VA Nancy (wife of Henry Beltz) born about 1788 in VA Catherine (wife of George Rider) born about 1795 in VA Elizabeth (wife of John Orr) born about 1799 in VA OTHER POSSIBLE SUSPECTS ----------------------- Rachel TIPTON (wife of Thomas Wheeler) born about 1799 in VA or MD Margaret NARAGONG (wife of William Parmer) born about 1803 in Loudoun County, VA Catharine SHULTZ (wife of Michael Hoobler) born about 1795 in Loudoun County, VA Catherine POLEN (wife of Thomas Ford) born about 1800 in Loudoun County, VA It is almost definite that one of these women is my ancestor! 2. Connie, Thank you for your hard work in transcribing this info. I have a particular interest in the item below. In 1823, my gg grandmother, Nancy Agnes Thompson, married my gg grandfather, William P. Murdock, in Harrison County. In 1850, she is living with two of her sons, William and James (my g grandfather) in Shortcreek Township next to Bradway Thompson's widow, Ann, and their son, John C. Thompson. In addition, her son, David Murdock, is living with the Thompsons. I have found some info on Bradway Thompson's family from Hinshaw's Quaker records, but no mention of Nancy. I am convinced that there is some relationship, but can't prove it. Does anyone have any more info on Bradway Thompson? Jack Ehmer In a message dated 8/26/2003 1:01:16 AM Pacific Standard Time, OHHARRIS-D-request@rootsweb.com writes: NOTICE All persons indebted to the estate of Bradway THOMPSON deceased, late of Shortcreek township, Harrison county Ohio, are hereby called on to make immediate payment -- and all those having legal claims against said estate are requested to present them legally attested for settlement, within one year from this date. 1. [OHHARRIS] THOMAS HAMILTON
    2. John Lindsay
    3. I am in need of an obituary, or any other information that might be available regarding Thomas Hamilton of Smithfield Township, Jefferson County. He lived from 1800 to c.1885. He is buried in the Presbyterian Cemetery in Adena. He was born in Pennsylvania, but apparently came to Ohio at an early age. He outlived three wives, including Effy Gourley and Mary Polly McLaughlin and to my knowledge never left the area for any period of time. I am especially interested in parents and offspring if anyone has any information. He was living in Adena in 1880, and other than the grave marker, that is the last information I have. Thanks. John William Lindsay

    1. [OHHARRIS] The Harrison Telegraph-April 10, 1824
    2. The Harrison Telegraph, Cadiz, Ohio, Saturday, April 10, 1824 During the last session of the Court of Common Pleas for this county, which commenced on Tuesday last, two separate bills of indictment were found against David Hermitage and David Vleet. The first against David Hermitage "for horse stealing, and against David Vleet as accessory, before the fact, to the felony and larceny." The second against David Hermitage " for horse stealing, and against David Vleet for harboring him, knowing him to be a thief." Hermitage was tried and convicted in both cases. But Vleets case was continued, in consequence of a motion by his council to have the case delayed until an application could be made to the Supreme court to have the trial removed to another county, under a plea that public. Excitement was too much against him to admit of a fair trial in this county. The whole prosecution rested on the testimony of Wm. H. Gardner, whose character was not impeached by any evidence before the court, although several witnesses had been summoned for that purpose. Yesterday afternoon Hermitage was brought into open court, and was sentenced to five year's imprisonment in the Penitentiary on each conviction -- one month in each year to the cells. We have given a copy of sundry papers on the second page of this paper to show the means by which Mr. Garner became an evidence in these cases NOTICE By virtue of an order of the Court of Common Pleas of Harrison count, at the April term 1824, we will sell at the court house in Cadiz, on Saturday the 29th of May next, a lot of land situated in the town of Cadiz, belonging to the estate of Sylvester Johnson deceased, being a part of lots No.'s 121 and 130 in said town.
