    1. Osborn/Osbun Family
    2. Tom
    3. I am working on the OSBORN/OSBUN family who were in Hardin Co. from at least 1846 and onward. Different branches of the family have taken alternate spellings of the surname. I descend from Jacob E. OSBORN whose spouse was Amy (----). Jacob and Amy's son George (spouse Mary CROSS) was my Great-granddad, and veteran of the 45th O.V.I. An International Genealogical Index entry @ FamilySearch for Jacob E. Osborn states that Jacob was married to Amy perhaps 1834 in Hardin, but I suspect the marriage was in Richland Co. (speculation, not proved). Jacob's father was Nathaniel OSBUN/OSBORN, whose will is on file in Hardin Probate Ct. and is dated 1846. Nathaniel names Jacob E. as executor. Nathaniel notes in his will the pending sale of a farm property in Richland Co., and in looking at 1840 and earlier censuses I did locate a Nathaniel Osborn/Osbun family, as well as other Osborn/Osbun families in close proximity. I suspect some may have been Nathaniel's brothers and/or sons starting their own families. It is possible that Jacob E. first removed to Hardin Co., and that later his father came to Hardin in his waning years. I believe that Jacob E. had a brother Isaac Osbun who lived and had a family in Hardin Co. There may have been others as well. It appears that Nathaniel's father was Samuel OSBORN/OSBUN, originally of Kingston, NJ, and veteran of the Rev. War. Samuel is said to have moved a number of times, eventually into Cadiz, Harrison Co., OH, thence to Richland where he passed on in 1832 and is buried in Osbun-Pittenger Cemetery. The linkage of Samuel Osbun to Nathaniel comes from family information compiled by other researchers, but I have not succeeded in obtaining reliable source documents. The original researcher, Betty Osbun Rogers, is now deceased, so I have not been able to inquire as to her source data. It may have been family stories passed down into branches of the family other than my own. Samuel OSBORN/OSBUN married Sarah HOLMES, who may also have originated in NJ. Children of Nathaniel OSBORN/OSBUN and wife Ann(a) EMMONS, as named in Nathaniel's will: Jacob E., Nathaniel, Isaac E., Samuel (deceased, but whose daughters, Anna and Susanna, were named), Sarah, Phoebe, Polly. In addition to Jacob E., I believe that Nathaniel (Jr.) and Isaac E. were resident in Hardin Co. at one time or another. I do not know about the daughters. Children of Jacob E. and wife Amy (----), as extracted from 1850 and 1860 Census schedules: Sarah, Samuel(?), Ann, George, Isaac, Mary, Ruany(?) or Rhircy(?), Edwin, Andrew, Martha. Nathaniel (Jr.) was married to Jane Hartman, I believe. I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching the Osborns/Osbuns. Tom Osborn California
