Dear Tom & Linda I am having the same problem trying to obtain my 3 gr-grandfather's death certificate. John Smith Lilley died on December 11, 1906 in Byhalia, Union County, OH and is buried in Kenton, Hardin County, OH. (He and his family lived in Hardin County many years before moving to a farm in Byhalia). The Union County Courthouse does not have it. I wrote to the OHS and received a letter stating: You will note that our researchers were unable to locate this name in the book "Death Records, Champaign & Union Counties, by DAR". .... that is the only "record" we (OHS) have among our holdings for deaths in both Union and Hardin Counties." It does say the LDS has microfilm copies of both Union and Hardin County death records. I have never gone to a LDS but I do know there are some in Columbus, OH. I live just north of Columbus but have not had the time to get there yet. I received a copy of what Union County's records are available on microfilm at LDS and it shows that LDS has death records, v1-3, 1867-1903. So, I still don't know if I would be able to find a death record for 1906 or not. Byhalia is near the Hardin County so I did check the index of Hardin County death index for 1867 - 1908, but it did not show John Lilley. In the Hardin County Death Index book, it does not show a George Osborn. It does have listings for the following Osborn surname: Albert, Alice, Emma Tena, Garfield, Lizzie, and Paul. There are a few Osbun & Osburn too, but no George. For Hardin County, the 'list of available records at LDS' shows they do have death records & index, v1-4, 1867-1908. I am wondering LInda, only at your convenience, could you look for a copy of a death record for John Smith Lilley? I would be glad to pay for the cost of the copy and could send you a self, addressed and stamped return envelope. Patti Smith Delaware, OH
