Hi. Would anyone out there have access to a cemetery book with burials for cemeteries in Dunkirk, Blanchard Township I believe. I am looking for a Maria (Underwood) McGinnis who died August 10, 1859 - I sure would like her birthdate. Any help would be most appreciated. Thanks. Charlene at charbee@rconnect.com.
This has been one of those troublesome brickwalls in my researches. Jacob E., whose surname spelling varies depending upon where it shows up, appeared in Hardin Co. by the time of the 1840 Census. He appears to have come from Richland Co. Jacob's father, Nathaniel, is found in Hardin around 1846, as evidenced by a will (Nathaniel's) on file in the county courthouse. Nathaniel is buried in Grove Cem. (died 16 Jun 1846), along with a number of family/extended family members. His headstone spells the surname "Osbun", whereas his will gives it as "Osburn" or "Osburne". Jacob's brother, also named Nathaniel, comes to Hardin (from Richland) during the 1840's, and is apparently at rest in Grove with his wife, Jane, and several children. Their names are given as "Osbun". I have Jacob E. and his wife Amy, along with various children, in Hardin in the 1840, 1850, and 1860 Censuses. They are nowhere to be found in 1870. A death record at the courthouse has Jacob E. passing away in 1877, his last place of residence being Taylor Creek. No record of Amy's death has been found. Jacob E., who was named executor of his father's estate, was willed his father's farm, which comprised the NW1/4 of Sect.10, T4S, R11E, and appears to have been located about 4.5 miles north of today's Kenton, if my map reading is correct. This seems to be the area referred to as Pleasant Twp., and is where Jacob & family were enumerated in 1840. In 1850 & 1860 Jacob and family are enumerated in Taylor Creek, which I see is to the south of Kenton. I do not know the precise location of Jacob's residence in these years, or what was done with the land he had north of Kenton. The pesky problem is what happened to Jacob and Amy after they passed on. A kind resident of Kenton checked the will books in the courthouse for me, but found nothing for Jacob. He did find a will for "Nathaniel Osburn(e)", and sent me a copy thinking it might be of use. Turned out to be Jacob's father (who I had not yet uncovered). Jacob's siblings' names, a link to Richland Co. (a farm owned by Nathaniel), and the legal description of Nathaniel's farm north of Kenton were jewels included in that will. What a find! Now I know that at least some of the Osbuns and Osborns of Hardin Co. are the same family/extended family, and have connections to Richland Co. This led me to find my Rev. War Patriot ancestor, Samuel Osborn/Osbun and his wife, Sarah Holmes, now at rest in Richland Co. But what happened to Jacob E. and his wife Amy? If someone on this list has access to readouts for some of the smaller cemeteries in Hardin Co., and would be willing to do a lookup, I would be very grateful. I do know that Jacob and Amy are not in Grove, or if they were then their stone(s) have long since been destroyed. I don't know if it's likely they'd have been buried on their own property at that time (late 1800's). It seems that there are many much earlier burials in the established cemeteries, so I am hoping they are in one of the smaller ones, perhaps within the area known as Taylor Creek. A long shot possibility is that the remains wound up back in Richland, but Jacob and Amy had been in Hardin for many years, and so it seems most plausible they both were buried somewhere within Hardin Co. I would be pleased to correspond with anyone else researching Osborn(e)/Osbun in Hardin Co. (or Richland Co., or ??). It would be fascinating to know how the spelling split in the surname came about. Posted on: Hardin Co. Oh Queries Reply Here: http://genconnect.rootsweb.com/gc/USA/Oh/Hardin/45 Surname: HARPER, HARMAN, BAILEY ------------------------- I am looking for the parents of Lottie Harman Harper who was married to Martin Harper. They lived in Harding County when they first got married. They are both buried in Otterbein Cemetery. I visited the cemetery last October. I did not find any Harmans in this cemetery. Harmans are listed in the 1870 census. I believe Lottie may be the daughter of Philip Harman and Keziah Murt. Any information would be appreciated.
Many of the settlers of Hardin County in the mid-1800's were Germans from the area around Schluechtern south of Fulda in Germany. I have recently created a web site with information mainly about the village Oberkalbach but some of which also pertains to the surrounding villages. It includes marriage contract information and also emigration information. There is also an index of the names included in the Oberkalbach christening books from 1654-1900. The site URL is: http://hometown.aol.com/ufoster442/index.html Hope it helps some of you on this list. Sue Foster

Good Morning, I'm trying to get caught up on my e-mail. If I have not answered you questions, I'm sorry. Christmas and Christmas parties and my son have really got me behind on my time. I will be off the week between Christmas and New Year. If you would please e-mail your searches again, I will have time to go to the courthouse and both libraries, ( Hardin and Logan Cos.) Maybe the Health Dept. (Brown). Once again I'm sorry for the delay. Judy D.
I will add my information to Tom's. I live in Kenton, Ohio which is in Hardin Co. Our library doesn't have much of a genealogy section, that is why I go to the Logan Co. Library. The Hardin Co. That is way I offered to help when I can. My Hardin Co. surnames are: Hatchers Bakers Borns My Logan Co. is: Hatchers Foulk/Folk Lisby/Lusby
