    1. CAMPBELL, NANCY M. b. 3/16/1845 Crawford County, OH OBIT
    2. Decatur County Journal Iowa May 28, l903 NANCY M. CAMPBELL was born in Crawford County, Ohio, March l6, l845. Moved with her parents to Hardin County, Ohio.  Was married to ROBT. H. JOHNSON July 3, l862.  To them were born six sons and one daughter, three of the sons and the daughter surviving.  She came with her husband to Pleasanton, Iowa, in l869.  They lived for a time in Morgan Township and in l887 moved to a farm in Woodland Township.  Here the husband died, May 28, l90l. Sister JOHNSON was converted at the age of l3 and united with the M.E. Church and ever lived a consistent Christian life, and was a faithful worker in the church and Sunday school.  Their home was always open for religious services.  A revival at Mt. Tabor four years ago, resulted in organizing a Methodist Society there, many being gathered into the church.  Bro. JOHNSON was the first class leader.  The writer held Thanksgiving service at their home in l900. Sister JOHNSON was a patient sufferer for about three months before her death and often praised God aloud for his goodness and a little while before her death, spoke of seeing her husband and other departed ones appearing to welcome her to the city of God.  She died May l8, l903, her death being peaceful.  She was a friend to all and was greatly esteemed by all who knew her.  The community has lost a worthy Christian lady; one whose place will be hard to fill.  Funeral services were held at Leon by the writer assisted by Rev. I.N. Woodward, after which her remains were laid to rest beside those of her husband in the Leon Cemetery.                                   S. SAMSON. ----------------------------------------------------------------------- Copied by Nancee(McMurtrey)Seifert August 2, 200l

    1. Re: Gibson, Cornwell
    2. I guess that I sent my own message back to me. This is all so confusing. The Sherman Nichols I am looking for was married to a Jennie. His son, Thomas Alonzo, was my father in laws father. Thomas was born in Louisville, Kentucky in August of 1897. My father-in-law, whose name is Sherman Lee Nichols was born in Oklahoma and remembers going to Sherman's funeral in Oklahoma in 1942. Does this sound like your Sherman? Any information you have would be so helpful. Thanks, Peggy

    2. As I understand it, the Sherman Nichols I am looking for was from Kentucky. I know that he died in Warner, Oklahoma on May 11, 1942. My father in law has his birth as May, 1875. Sherman Nichols was my father in laws grandfather. His father, Thomas Alonzo was a son of Sherman Nichols. I sure hope this is your same Sherman as we have been trying so hard to track this down. Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Peggy Nichols

    3. You can search for death certificate info on William Blakley at: http://www.ohiohistory.org/dindex/ He died in Hancock County, 8/22/1925. You can get a copy of the death certificate for $1.00 from the Historical Society, but it takes a while. The on-line Index for the death certficiates only goes to 1937. You can get the Historical Society to search the 1939 records for $5.00, but again it will take a while. If you are close enough to Columbus it's worth the trip to look through the records yourself. 1. Roundhead cemeteries and the Hites family
    2. Ronald E. Shafer
    3. Hi Carol Berens Thanks so much for the Hites information. Elizabeth "Betsy" Bowers Hites is the one you listed in the Old Church Cemetery, Roundhead, Hardin County, Ohio. She is my GGG-Grandmother. My records are as follows: Elizabeth "Betsy" Bowers b: Abt. 1784 in Virginia d: July 15, 1840 in McDonald Twp,., Hardin County, Ohio. I don't know what twp. Roundhead might be in. John Hites, her husband, of course then is my GGG-Grandfather. You show: "Born 02-18-1790 Died 12-06-1876. See Vet Listing) Old Church Cemetery-Main Section- row 8- number 07". I don't know what the note "See Vet Listing" means. My records are: John Hites III (since I have several John Hites I have given them numbers) b: February 18, 1791 in Virginia d: December 06, 1876 in Hardin County, Ohio. Would you have a map showing the location of the rows and numbers for this cemetery? It was a rainy day when we were there and went to two cemeteries near Roundhead. They were just a short distance from each other and on opposite sides of the road. The one nearest town was the older one, looking back I don't think I saw any Hites headstones. We visited 20 cemeteries during Memorial week and some 65 gravesites. So I am having trouble remembering just what was where. I was born near Belle Center, but over the border in Hardin county. I still have an elderly Aunt living near there. My cousin, her son, is trustee of the Fairview-McDonald cemetery. He gave me a book on the "McDonald Twp. Cemetery inscriptions." I found an interesting site on cemeteries; www.interment.net/us/oh/index.htm . Some of the listings are detailed and of course some not. The other listing you supplied was of Caty A. Hites; and she is in my file. I did not have the exact dates for her. With what you supplied then she must have been born Mar 6, 1840. Then her family is: Descendants of George Hites 1 George Hites b: July 14, 1815 in Jefferson County, Ohio d: May 15, 1898 in Hardin County, Ohio . +Elizabeth Hatfield b: March 20, 1815 in Maryland d: November 10, 1896 in Hardin County, Ohio m: December 27, 1836 in Carrol County, Ohio ... 2 William Hites b: 1838 d: 1912 ....... +Caroline Spencer b: 1844 d: 1919 ... 2 Cathy Ann Hites b: March 06, 1840 d: August 15, 1842 ... 2 Alfred Hites b: 1848 d: April 18, 1914 ....... +Alice Woolard b: 1858 d: 1921 ... 2 Marianna Hites b: 1849 d: 1849 ... 2 Nancy Jane Hites b: 1852 d: 1874 ....... +P. Summer ... 2 George Westley Hites b: 1857 d: 1857 in 26 days old Thanks again. Ron Shafer
