Hi Everyone - I am searching for someone who personally knew my grandmother, Isabelle Iva SCHEARER MOORE. A large amount of people knew/know of her - she died in 1936 when a pressure cooker blew up, leaving Grandpa (George Lester MOORE) with 8 kids to raise. Most of us know more than we care to about her death - what we would like to do is find out more about her life. Grandma was born on the family farm on the Hardin/Logan County line outside of Belle Center (hence this message will be cross-posted on the Logan County e-list). Statistics: * born 20 Jan 1905 to Samuel and Elizabeth HANCOCK SCHEARER * attended high school in Belle Center; graduated 1924 * married 10 Mar 1925 to GL MOORE of near Alger, who was 12 years older * had 8 kids in 11 years (names and dates withheld as most are living) * died 21 Nov 1936 * buried Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Roundhead Twp, Hardin County I know it's a long shot, people who knew her personally would have to be in their 90s at least. But hey, nice things sometimes happen :-) Some of the things my cousins and I would like to know are just ordinary things, what kind of person was she (was she really as hot-tempered as some family legends indicate?) How did she meet Grandpa and what was the attraction? His airplane? His motorcycle? Who were her friends? I am also trying to locate pictures to copy - a house fire destroyed everything of that nature, but I did find the Belle Center graduation pictures! Any help most appreciated, Debbie Moore Hardin County, can travel to do interviews _________________________________________________________________ Get your FREE download of MSN Explorer at http://explorer.msn.com/intl.asp

I've kept a reply you sent me in August 1998 that pretty well confirmed that my Hubers and yours are not connected. William Kahler (1812-1892) married Louise Huber (1856-1914) when he was 67, and they had three children (strange but true) who died in 1887 of diptheria, then had Wm GC Kahler, who was my ggrandfather. Louise remarried David Schwan and they had two sons. Louise was the daughter of Carl Huber (1814-1882) and Elizabeth Huber (1816-1888) whose maiden name appears to have been Huber. I have no further information beyond Carl and Elizabeth. I have, however, found a descendent of one of Louise's brothers, also named Carl, and have enjoyed sharing stories and photos. My Hubers came from Thaleischiweiler, Alsace. I wish I knew more. My Kahlers came from Hilherburg Amt Traihesse Rurchessen (Germany).

I am working on the OSBORN/OSBUN family who were in Hardin Co. from at least 1846 and onward. Different branches of the family have taken alternate spellings of the surname. I descend from Jacob E. OSBORN whose spouse was Amy (----). Jacob and Amy's son George (spouse Mary CROSS) was my Great-granddad, and veteran of the 45th O.V.I. An International Genealogical Index entry @ FamilySearch for Jacob E. Osborn states that Jacob was married to Amy perhaps 1834 in Hardin, but I suspect the marriage was in Richland Co. (speculation, not proved). Jacob's father was Nathaniel OSBUN/OSBORN, whose will is on file in Hardin Probate Ct. and is dated 1846. Nathaniel names Jacob E. as executor. Nathaniel notes in his will the pending sale of a farm property in Richland Co., and in looking at 1840 and earlier censuses I did locate a Nathaniel Osborn/Osbun family, as well as other Osborn/Osbun families in close proximity. I suspect some may have been Nathaniel's brothers and/or sons starting their own families. It is possible that Jacob E. first removed to Hardin Co., and that later his father came to Hardin in his waning years. I believe that Jacob E. had a brother Isaac Osbun who lived and had a family in Hardin Co. There may have been others as well. It appears that Nathaniel's father was Samuel OSBORN/OSBUN, originally of Kingston, NJ, and veteran of the Rev. War. Samuel is said to have moved a number of times, eventually into Cadiz, Harrison Co., OH, thence to Richland where he passed on in 1832 and is buried in Osbun-Pittenger Cemetery. The linkage of Samuel Osbun to Nathaniel comes from family information compiled by other researchers, but I have not succeeded in obtaining reliable source documents. The original researcher, Betty Osbun Rogers, is now deceased, so I have not been able to inquire as to her source data. It may have been family stories passed down into branches of the family other than my own. Samuel OSBORN/OSBUN married Sarah HOLMES, who may also have originated in NJ. Children of Nathaniel OSBORN/OSBUN and wife Ann(a) EMMONS, as named in Nathaniel's will: Jacob E., Nathaniel, Isaac E., Samuel (deceased, but whose daughters, Anna and Susanna, were named), Sarah, Phoebe, Polly. In addition to Jacob E., I believe that Nathaniel (Jr.) and Isaac E. were resident in Hardin Co. at one time or another. I do not know about the daughters. Children of Jacob E. and wife Amy (----), as extracted from 1850 and 1860 Census schedules: Sarah, Samuel(?), Ann, George, Isaac, Mary, Ruany(?) or Rhircy(?), Edwin, Andrew, Martha. Nathaniel (Jr.) was married to Jane Hartman, I believe. I would like to correspond with anyone who is researching the Osborns/Osbuns. Tom Osborn California
Mary CROSS, my Great-grandmother, was the wife of George OSBORN (of Hardin Co.) George and Mary were married 1869 (if I remember correctly) in Hardin Co. Mary was born in Logan Co., OH, apparently in Rushcreek Twp. Her parents were Peter CROSS and Susannah WHITE. Peter CROSS and Susannah WHITE were married 1834 in Logan Co., where they were enumerated in the Censuses of 1840, 1850, and 1860. In 1870 they are located in Hardin Co. (Taylor Creek). Peter died 1894, apparently in Hardin Co., but is buried in Logan Co. (Miami Cem.). Susannah (WHITE) CROSS died 1903 in Kenton, and is buried with Peter. Peter CROSS's parents were John and Margaret (BOWERS) CROSS, as identified in a "Biographical Sketch" in an old county history encompassing Hardin Co. John CROSS and wife Margaret BOWERS were described as natives of PA and pioneers of Licking Co., OH. Peter was born in Licking Co. about 1814-1818. A submission to Ancestral File @ FamilySearch identifies John and Margaret (BOWERS) CROSS as parents of Lydia CROSS and John CROSS--no son "Peter" is named. This Ancestral File record indicates the birth of Lydia CROSS was 1812 in Bowlingreen Twp., Licking Co. Her death is noted as 1899 in Buck Twp., Hardin Co., with burial in Sieg Cem., Taylor Creek. It appears likely Peter and Lydia were siblings. Children of Peter CROSS and Susannah WHITE, as compiled from census schedules: Phoebe, Alexander, Margaret, Rosannah, Nancy, Mary C., George W., Joseph P., Sarah, Albert, Minerva. I would like to correspond with anyone who has information on the CROSS family. Tom Osborn California

I have finished uploading the 1850 Hardin County Mortality list to the Hardin County Genealogy Research Center site. You will find it under the link. I am still working on the Cemetery page. http://hardincogenealogycenter.homestead.com/index.html Good Luck Gloria Motter jgmott@wcoil.com
We would like to invite you to re-visit our website, The POORHOUSE STORY (a clearinghouse for information about 19th century American poorhouses) at http://www.poorhousestory.com We just posted an image of a picture (photo) postcard of the HARDIN County Infirmary; actually it is a shot of the grounds more than the building. But ... Wha' happened to the building? Did it shrink? <grin> I think this may be an example of a case where the old lithographs for those county histories were a little ... grandiose???! DIRECTIONS: At the homepage (link above) click on POORHOUSES BY STATE, then on OHIO on the table of states, then on HARDIN on the table of counties. You will see the new picture near the top of the page(with a yellow NEW arrow). (NOTE: If you have visited the site recently, you may have to click on REFRESH on your browser to see the new information.) There are other pages on the site which may give you some interesting perspective on poorhouses. They are off the homepage and include: the HISTORY page and the LETTER TO GENEALOGISTS as well as FEATURED ARTICLES. There are great tips for researching poorhouse records for yourself on the RECORDS page; and you might want to subscribe to our (almost) monthly newletter (which you can do in the lower right corner of the homepage). The information on our site will only grow through the submissions of generous readers. If you would like to e-mail me ... please do so off-list because I cannot maintain subscriptions to as many lists as we post messages on. (You can use an e-mail link off one of our web pages.) We hope you enjoy the site! Thanks, Linda Crannell (aka=The Poorhouse Lady)
I have added a few more things to the Hardin County Research Site. You may want to check the site every week as I will add and change information weekly. Also I have added the publications we now have in stock. If there is a broken link, could you e-mail me! http://hardincogenealogycenter.homestead.com/index.html Thank You for your time.
