I have to keep reminding myself that my earliest Mr. WARD (Mahlon James WARD's father) came from ENGLAND. I don't know when he came to America nor where he first settled- but most likely he didn't come directly to Ohio (Findlay, Hancock County). He was in America by or before 1832 when Mahlon was born. Note below, there WERE some ROBERTS also living in Big Lick township, Hancock County, Ohio where N. H. WARD and his brother Jonathan settled. Can anyone provide more info about these families. Thanks! Mary Kay WARD- in Richmond, VA I wonder if the James WARD of Maryland (from the History of Hancock County" book) -who married Elizabeth EATON of Pennsylvania--was born in England?? The book says they were living in Washington County, PA in 1812 when their son N. H. WARD was born--and when they moved to Columbiana Co, Ohio in 1815 they had him and also sons David and Jonathan. There was a family -James WARD 40-50 yrs old living in Licking twp, Muskigum County on the 1830 census with his wife and 3 girls & 1 boy. Maybe this is the James WARD and Eliza EATON -the family of N.H.WARD and his 8 siblings. 1850 census-Big lick twp, Hancock Co, OH, pg 440: Nathan H. WARD 37 PA, Eliza 36 OH, Leonard 12 OH, Alonzo 6 OH; Hannah 1 OH. (Nathan H. is "N.H."; Eliza is "Eliza McCAULLY b 1814; Leonard is son who was a college student when he died; Alonzo is the "A.H." and Hannah is the "H. Kate" - All of these are mentioned on pt 681 in Big Lick twp in the Hancock History book!!) Jonathan WARD 39 PA, Hannah 38 PA; Luther Mahlin Marvin 12 OH; Mollerbill Mc Guff 7 OH; Marvin McGuff. (Notice the name Mahlin for the 12 year old sounds like Mahlon). 1860 Census-Big lick twp, Hancock Co, OH pg 223: Dwelling 72, fam. 355: Henry (or Harpley?) WARD 46 PA farmer RE $7,000; PE $1,000; Eliza 44 OH; Alonzo 16 OH farmer; Hannah C. 11 OH; Jane McCulla 18 Farm Labor Dwelling 378; fam.367: Jonathan Ward 49 PA farmer RE $4000; PE $600; Hannah 48 PA; Seth L. 6 OH; M.C. Marvin 17 OH Farm laborer. I had also made notes of several ROBERTS families in Big Lick township in the 1860 census. Maybe my Mary A. ROBERTS husband & Fanny Emily ROBERTS father came from or was related to one of these families- Because Fanny ROBERTS married Mahlon J.WARD. 1860 Big Lick township: pg 219: David Roberts 49 OH and wife Mary 40 OH; John 18 OH; James 15 OH; Latilia 13 OH; George 10 OH; Solomon 8 OH; Erata 6 OH; Larona 2 male OH; Jasper 3/12 OH pg 218B: Owen W.
