>From the book, Findlay, The Story of a Community by William D. Humphrey (an Associate Professor at Ohio Northern University) published 1961. P. 15 " But the post office reflects several divergent spellings of the name. As it was formerly named "Fort Findley," this was an error, probably due to a mistake in the spelling in the petition. The first change came in April 1828 when "Fort" was dropped and the name "Finley" became official. In March 1856 the spelling was changed to "Findley." It wsn't until February 1870 that the last change "Findlay" brought the name into line with the proper spelling of Colonel Findlay's name." I hope this helps. There is a Finney Town and a Findley Market down in Cincinnati. Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com
