Hi, I have a German-language Bible that once belonged to a Schlee/Matthes/Hoppenberg family in Findlay. (In addition a Smith, Driesbach and Schaffer are mentioned.) Although I would like to keep the Bible, there are a number of documents, letters and clippings that I would like to send to the local genealogical/historical society. Does anyone know how I would do that? In case anyone is interested, here is a rundown of the people noted in the documents (some are written in the Gothic German script): Schlee + John (Johann) Schlee, died Feb. 14, 1914, age 59. Born in Breitenhole, Bavaria. Immigrated from Germany at age 14. Went to Columbus before moving to Findlay. Member of Dennison, Karg and Schlee, a meat company. (Survived by three sisters and a brother, all unidentified.) + Martha Johannah Schlee nee Matthes, b. Aug. 31, 1858. m. John Schlee. + Gustav Henry Schlee, b. Jan. 30, 1880. Was with firm of Van Tassel and Schlee in 1914. (son of Martha and John) + Amil (Emil) Herman Schlee, b. Dec. 4, 1881. (son of Martha and John) Matthes + Henry (Heinrich) Matthes, d. March 28, 1894, page 70. + Johanna Matthes, d. Oct. 25, 1898, b. April 16, 1824 in Ebersdorf. M. for 25 years to Heinrich Matthes. Immigrated on June 12, 1849 and settled in Findlay. Had six children, only three named in obit. + Martha Johanna Schlee (daughter of Henry and Johanna Mathtes. See additional information above.) + Mrs. Gus (also listed as Gust) Hoppenberg (daughter of Henry and Johanna Matthes). Presumably this is the Gustaf Hoppenberg listed below. + Heinrich Schlee (son of Henry and Johanna Matthes) Hoppenberg + Henry C. Hoppenberg, b. Aug. 3, 1872 in Findlay to Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg. m. Roddie Gernflo on Nov. 18, 1897. d. 1924. + Pauline Hoppenberg (daughter of Henry and Roddie Hoppenberg) + Gustav Hoppenberg (son of Henry and Roddie Hoppenberg) + Catherine Hoppenberg (daughter of Henry and Roddie Hoppenberg) + John Hoppenberg (son of Henry and Roddie Hoppenberg) + Mrs. Dave Schaffer (daughter of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Ernest Hoppenberg (son of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Mrs. L.A. Driesbach of Oakland, Calif. (daughter of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Charles Hoppenberg of Texas (son of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Mrs. Harry Smith of Alma, Mich. (daughter of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Mary Hoppenberg of California (daughter of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) + Johanna Hoppenberg of California (daughter of Gustav and Pauline Hoppenberg) Most of the members of these families appear to have attended St. Johns Lutheran Church in Findlay.
