According to the 1886 History of Hancock Co, OH, page 360, David and Mary Egbert settled in Fairfield Co., in 1812. In 1822, they left for Seneca Co, OH. David went on to Hancock Co. in 1831-2. Some of the family stayed in Hancock Co. The parents went on to Wood Co., where they later died. The following mentions more on the family. Baughman: William Holtz EGBERT lived Pleasant Twp., Seneca Co., OH. b. 19 Dec 1865 Pleasant Twp., Seneca Co, OH. s/o Norman D. and Susan C. (HOLTZ) EGBERT who were also natives of Seneca Co., OH. Norman Egbert was s/o Jeremiah W. and Lucy (RULE) EGBERT. Jeremiah was born near Lancaster, OH and Lucy was born in Seneca Co., OH. Jeremiah was the son of Uriah and Susannah (WILLIAMS) EGBERT--he of northern NJ and she of PA. They went to Seneca county in 1823 [note difference in dates] and settled primarily near Tiffin. Old homestead in Pleasant Twp. Egberts first found in America in Dutch settlements on Staten Island about 1663. "Govert and Barent Egbert were either brothers or cousins...Govert is called a Dutchman and taxable in an old document of 1685. The dates of the birth and death of his son Tunis are unknown but he had a son James who was born in 1695 and who married Catharine DENNY, who him a son John , born in 1722. John had a large family, one of whom was James, born in 1759. He married Sarah SMITH in Henderson county, New Jersey, and two of their sons, David and Uriah, came to Seneca County, Ohio in 1823 and bought land from the government. David soon moved to Hancock County and there and in Wood county his descendants still live..." William Holtz Egbert's mother was Susan C. HOLTZ, d/o William and Catherine (CRAMER) HOLTZ, natives of Frederick county, Maryland. They came to Seneca Co. in 1834 and located in Pleaant Twp a little later. The RULE family were early settlers in "this" part of Ohio. [I presume this means Seneca Co.] William Holtz EGBERT mar. 2 Jan 1894 Miss Mary L. VONBLON d/o John and Catherin VonBlon. Mary was born 19 Nov 1872 in Seneca Co., OH William and Mary had 3 children: Julia, b 30 May 1896, died in infancy; Hilda, b. 4 Feb 1898; and Frieda, b. 13 Dec 1909. William's siblings: Knott C., in state of Oregon; Norman D., farmer in Pleasant Twp.; Frances is w/o Thomas CRABILL and resides on fram with her parents. VONBLON Family: Mary's great grandfather was Philip Von Blon, a native of Rhenish Bavaria, was the founder of the family in America and he was the first president of the German Reformed church in Tiffin. His son was Jacob Von Blon, born in Waldmor, Rhenish Bavaria, and came to this county when young. Jacob mar. Nancy WAGNER, a native of PA. Mary's maternal grandparents were Lewis and Catherine (EMICH) STAIB, natives ofWurtemberg, Germany. Mary's father was John Von Blon, a soldier in the Union army. Enlisted in IN . served in Co. A., 11th IN Cavalry, under Colonel Stuart and Capt. LaFlesh. He was born 3 Feb 1842 Mary's mother was Catherine (STAIB) VONBLON who was born 2 Feb 1845. I know this is long, but anyone having EGBERTs will have quite a bit of ancestry now.
