Suzanna, I am struck by the birth and death dates listed for the William Long you are researching as having died in MI in the War of 1812. It appears he was 16 years old at the time. Was this info from some record, or is it from family tradition? If he was really that young, he was probably not married. As his natural heirs, his parents could take out claims for his pension or bounty land. Have you looked in Virgil White's War of 1812 index for that type of claim? I have copies of both Hervey Scott and C. M. I. Wiseman's histories of Fairfield Co, OH. Neither one lists a John Long in their writeups. A John Long is listed in several locations in the early tax records of Fairfield County, OH. There appear to be more than one of them. If you are having trouble finding from where they came, you might try Huntingdon Co, PA. There were Longs living near and married into my Lane and Brown families in several genearations. They were in Fairfield Co about 1800. Family Tree Maker's CD # 175, Ohio Vital Records #1, lists John Long's will abstract on page 584 of Gateway to the West. His wife Sebena and son, Robert, are listed as executors. No other children are listed. William Roller and Andrew Poulson were witnesses. By coincidence, two entries lower on the page from John Long is my ancestor, James Rose. His executor, John Rose, was my ancestor.
