    3. Jean, No, the Judge Rose I was referencing was a son of John Rose. John was brother to James Rose, and son of David Rose and Hannah Par. Judge James E. Rose of Auburn Indiana prepared a (partial) manuscript titled "Genealogical Biographical and Historical Sketches and Reminiscenses from Records and Traditions of the Rose Family" in 1888. John R. Scoville of Butler, Indiana located it in 1972. The mss was published in the Rose Family Bulletin, IX, Whole No. 34, June 1974, pp 937-940. Christine Rose also printed two reunion notices for this family which took place in the 1880's. They were in RFB , No.2, pp 31-32, and No. 3, pp 55-57. I am alittle confused by the lineage listed below. I found a marriage license for James G. Rose and Emma Emily Saunders in the Hancock Co, OH, vital records. You indicate that James Rose married Emily Wolford. I know that the couple was listed with Andrew Wolford on the 1850 census in Deleware Township, page 82. Charlotte was not there. This fits with your ecord of her death in 1847. I have always wondered why they were with this family. Emily is listed as born in England. All the rest of the family is listed born in OH. Was she adopted? Was she the daughter of an earlier wife of Andrew from the earlier wife's prior marriage? Emily just seems to be too old to be the daughter of Andrew and Charlotte. I have assumed she was not related, and that James Rose was working for Andrew Wolford. Perhaps Emily WAS the daughter of Andrew and Charlotte. She is about five years older than James Rose. She may have been married once already, and married James under her married name. I don't remember looking in the VR files for Emily Wolford married to a Saunders. Maybe you could do that. If true, that would identify her first husband and probably confirm her maiden name. There may be marriage and death records for Saunders in Fairfield or Hancock Cos, OH. If she was NOT the daughter of Andrew Wolford, then one needs to look for a marriage of any male Saunders surname to any Emily given name prior to 22 April 1850. The 1840 census for Andrew Wolford lists one male 20-30, one male under 5, one female 20-30, and one female under 5. This raises the question again, Why are there not two female children listed? Pages 25-26 of that census list many of your and my family names. However, there is no Saunders listed. The name Saunders is known in Fairfield Conty, OH, from where many of these folks came. Final question, How are you related to the James G. Rose listed above? You call him an ancestor, but I don't see any descendancy listed in your lineage. He is a grandson to my James Rose and Sarah Norris through my John Rose and Margaret Berry. John and Margaret's daughter, Elizabeth, who married Obediah Hall, was my ancestress. She was next youngest in age to James G. Rose. My line follows through Calvin Sigel Hall and Laura Hudson, Vallie Blanche Hall and Daniel Hale Taylor Jr., Ella Izora Marie Taylor and Sylvester Otto Lenzen, to me Gerald Sylvester Lenzen md 1959 to Constance Lou Miller. My Taylor Grandparents and Hall Great Grandparents are all buried in Riverview Cemetery here in Portland, Oregon where we live. I have briefly looked through my notes for any other new info on James G. Rose. Beers and Co. "History of Hancock Co., Ohio," by R.C. Brown Warner, 1886, says that he was in Michigan at the time of publication. If you look him up on the BLM Federal Land Records web site, there are a huge number of entries for James G. Rose. I have never tracked him down there, so I don't know whether or not that is your James G. Rose. It's worth a try. Let me know how you are related to the Rose clan.
