Hello Gaye! Your article regarding the photographs etc., prompted me to be in touch with you in hopes you may be able to give me some leads that will help me find some much needed information. My Grandmother was Celia Priscilla Gates. Her father, (and my G-Grandfather) was David Gates, her Mother,(and my G-Grandmother )was Zuerilda VanMeter Gates. My Gates family came mostly from the Belmont Co. Ohio area. David and Zuerilda had several children . Hudson, Celia, Isabella(better known as Bella) Lucy, Valentine, George, Cyrus, and Grant, that we can identify. The 1880 Census of Marshall Co. W.Va. shows these children living in Marshall Co with Bella as Keeping House. There is no mention of David in the 1880 Census and since Zuerilda died in 1878 in Marshall Co. W.Va this brings us to believe David was staying in this household in 1880 and we are unable to locate him in Marshall Co. at all nor in Belmont, Co. My problem is: My father was born in1894 and my Mother has told us he was born in Findley, Ohio. Search for a birth certificate etc. has been to no avail. Grandmother Celia married and moved to Weatherford,Texas and separated about 5 or six months before Dad's birth, and returned back to Ohio or W.Va. We have not been able to locate a birth certificate in Ohio, W.va, or Texas. WE are aware many Gates's lived in Findley at this time and would like to hear from anyone who could give us any leads on information on any of this family. Grandfather David GAtes did invent the Gates churn and we find again later manufacturing them in the W.Va. area. I didn't mean to be so long but felt some of this info might be useful to someone who could give me a lead. Many thanks for your patience. D.Knotts------E-Mail -MKnotts1@AOL.Com
