Dear Marilyn, Re: Digest V99 #39 This may or may not be relevant to your ancestors. Do you think the name WILSON was ever a surname of one of your ancestors? I was interested in the name WILSON in your message. My Mahlon James WARD was born in 1832 in Finlay and married 18 Jul 1861 to Francis [Fannie] Emily ROBERTS in Hancock County. I've been trying to find their parents and families. So as I was looking for WARDs, in the LDS-IGI file I found a Jesse WARD who who married Irena Ann WILSON abt. 1841 in Hancock County, OH. The dates are close enough that Jesse WARD would have been born about 1820 and might be an older brother of my Mahlon J. WARD. Hope you have a break thru in your research, Marilyn. Hang in there! I'll have to do a lot more research to verify facts but this could be a breakthru. IF this James JOHNSON was indeed the husband of my Mary A. _?_ JOHNSON he might have died sometime after their 3rd child, Allen Johnson was born in 1842 and before his wife, Mary A. Do you have any suggestions where I should start to look for a death date -in the Muskigum, Hancock, & Wyandot Co, Ohio area for James JOHNSON in 1842-1843 or even 1844? Of course maybe Mary's husband -whoever he was- just "deserted" the family. Sorry this is so long! I'm so thankful for everyone's help! Can someone please tell me if the Hancock County Recorder's Office is on line or has an e/mail address? I am trying to get in touch with this office in the hopes of finding the military service number for my wife's father. I have been told that veteran's were required to "register" information with this office upon discharge after WWII. Also, does anyone in the Findlay area know if any of the veteran's organizations in that area have an e/mail address so that I can try to contact them. I don't know that her father would have belonged to the VFW, but it's worth a try. Thank you for any help/guidance you may be able to offer us in this search for information about her father. I don't believe you need the military service number if you have the social security number. Check the web site for more information. you will need to download the Standard Form 180. http://www.nara.gov/regional/mpr.html Mike Creps - San Jose, CA R W Hughes wrote: > I am trying to obtain the military records for my wife's father, but > can't because I don't know his military service number.
