HAHN; Hancock Co., Ohio, USA; 1815-1882. Margaret HAHN, born in Hanover Germany, immigrated to USA sometime prior to c. 1840. She and her husband, Peter JACOBS, a native of Alsace-Lorraine, appear in the 1850 Federal Census in Wayne County, Ohio, with 4 children ranging in age from 9 months to 11 years. Margaret lived the rest of here life in Wayne County and was buried at West Salem Cemetery, West Salem, Ohio. Family lore has been that Margaret and her family were from the Findlay, Ohio area. I'm looking for information that would confirm her ties to Hancock County as well as lead me to information regarding her parents and specific place of birth. Thanks for your help. Dear Cheryl Treece <v1slchair@aol.com>, You wrote and said you live in Hancock County and have tried to help with my query. I responded to your email address but it bounced back to me as "invalid" so I don't know how to contact you. Thanks so much for trying to help me thru the Hancock County, genweb page. My Roberts family was on the census in Crawford twp, Wyandot County, Ohio in 1850. I was advised to search also in other nearby counties such as Hancock and Muskigum Counties. Mary A. ROBERT's daughter, Fanny Emily ROBERTS b. abt 1846/47 in Wyandot Co, Ohio was abt 14/15 yrs old when she married an older man, 29 yr old Mahlon James WARD in 1861 in Hancock Co., Ohio. He came from Findlay, Hancock Co, Ohio but I have not been able to find his parents nor siblings. If you have anything that will help me, Cheryl, please respond. I'm so grateful to hear from someone who lives in Hancock County, and for ANY help you can give me. I'd love to visit there and walk the paths my ancestors walked. I just know there are more clues there if I can just find them! I'm guessing that both Mr. JOHNSON and Mr. ROBERTS were born about 1812 (or before) because they were probably at least as old as Mary A. ROBERTS who was born abt 1812 in OH. Mr. JOHNSON & Mary A. probably married abt 1832. Mr. ROBERTS & Mary A. JOHNSON married abt 1844. Both marriages probably were in the Hancock Co, Ohio area. I'm searching for JOHNSON & ROBERTS families on all of the Ohio censuses for the counties of Muskigum, Hancock and Wyandot from 1830 to 1870 and I'm looking at the names of their neighbors too, just in case something pops out at me. ___________________________________________________________________ Get the Internet just the way you want it. I am looking for information on James Sheldon, born 1795. He married Mary (Gwelp ?). They had a son named Eli Jesse Sheldon b 7/30/1836 in Belmont Co. Ohio. All three of them (and probably more) ended up in Hancock County. I am related to William Sheldon, born 1790 in England. He married Sarah ? in 1837 in Delaware County, OH. I have a cousin (here in Hardin Co.) that was told when he was younger that William had two brothers, one was named James and settled in Hancock County and he could not remember the name or where the other brother went. I'm trying to find William's brothers ..... many be then I'll be able to fill in some "holes" in my tree. Any information on either one would be appreciated. Thanks! Margaret, If your great-grandmother died in the city, her certificate would be at the health department. If she died in the county, you would find it in the probate court. The probate court is beside the court house and the health department has moved about 5-ish blocks away. If you give me the name and date I would be happy to check it out for you. Leslie

Margaret When I dealt with the City of Findlay Dept. of Health they wanted the list of names and charged 20 or 25 cents per copy they made. I sent them my list of names and $5. They made copies of as many birth and death certificates they could find for me. They amount of information that they sent me was great and was closer to $6 by their rates but they weren't going to argue about a dollar. If you do not ask for certified death certificates it is cheaper. The City of Findlay and Hancock County Departments of Health are on the same block in Findlay (as I am told). They also call each other for genealogical lookups. My suggestion is to call up the County Health Dept. and find out their rates and avoid certified copies. I think I remember a price of $15 for a certified copy from the County. Another option is the genealogy department at the Findlay-Hancock County Public Library. http://www.findlay.lib.oh.us/hist.htm Their rates are on the top of this webpage. Again I used them for a small list of names and they sent back the OBITs I requested. I did not request any copies of birth or death certificates. They do an E-mail address.

Sandy - I don't know about the book on Fountain Cemetery, but have been there before and located a number of my Linhart ancestors buried there - Philip John Linhart, John B., William Cassius, and Clayton John. They were all from the Bloomdale area, just east of Fostoria off Route 613, from the second half of 1800's. Does anyone have any linkeages to this Linhart family? I would also be interested if anyone has the Fountain cemetery book. John Linhart

Looking for leads to the where abouts of Jacob ENGLE (b. abt. 1835) and wife Jane E. ROLSTON. They were married Oct 4, 1860, in Hancock Co., Ohio. Jane's father, John H. Rolston, had died in February of 1860, but Jane's mother, Nancy Woodyard Rolston, was still living at that time. Jacob ENGLE and wife Jane do not appear in the 1870 census of Hancock County nor does Jane's mother Nancy Woodyard Rolston. I speculate that the Engles with mother-in-law moved out of the county but, I do not have a clue as to where they went.
