I need to find out where to look for land records in Monroe Township, Hancock County, Ohio for the period 1851 to 1865. I recently received a map of Monroe Township back then showing who owned what land. There is a 40 acre farm in the name of J. Wilson. I need to find out what the "J" stands for. According to the 1886 History of Hancock Co, OH, page 360, David and Mary Egbert settled in Fairfield Co., in 1812. In 1822, they left for Seneca Co, OH. David went on to Hancock Co. in 1831-2. Some of the family stayed in Hancock Co. The parents went on to Wood Co., where they later died. The following mentions more on the family.
