Hi all: I am looking for the parents of Charlotte SALES who married David ANWAY abt 1830 probably in OH. Charlotte was born in OH (or NY) in 1810 and died in 1872 in Monterey, Allegan, MI. Most or all of their children were born in Richland Twp, Hancock, OH. These children include: Orpha Eliza, Polly, Elias J., Sylvester, Eliza I., and Francis M. Orpha is my ancestor and she was born in 1832. Has anybody heard of the SALES family? Please contact Judy Schor at judyschor@aol.com Thank you.
hello, I just joined this list. Today I received the obituary for an ancestor, Elisa Andre-VIRONET, that mentions her originally settling in Findley Ohio, in 1889. I could not find Findley OH using any of the on-line map programs, and the rootsweb.com search engine. I did find "Findlay Ohio" via the rootsweb search engine, located in Hancock County. I was wondering if Findley and Findlay are the same town, and why there are several links to Findley OH on the web, but no trace of it on the maps? did Findley get renamed? thanks, Matt Verona Houston Texas

Am seeking any info on the family of my paternal grandmother, Christine Richert. Her obituary in the Findlay paper states she was born in Van Buren Twp, Hancock Co, 24 May 1868, died 16 May 1945 in Findlay. She married George Adam Weissling on 22 January 1888. Her father was Daniel Richert. He died in Crab Orchard, KY. His headstone indicates he was born in 1843 and died in 1891. I had heard that the Richert family lived near Jenera, OH at one time. That's about all I know. Any additional information would be most appreciated. Jack Weissling, Colrado
Now that I have found more information on MY Henry Shank, Sr. ( not the one who died in Ottowa Twsp, Putnam in 1885) I want to trace his path from Tuscarawas County to Richland Twsp which moved from Putnam Cty to Allen Cty between the 1940 and 1950 Censuses. Then, in 1853, he settled in Hancock County where his farm was reported to have been a stop on the Underground Railroad allowing escaped slaves to reach Canada and freedom. I am looking for any/all records of him, his son Robert Flemming Shank and my great grandfather, Albert Clinton Shank ( 1860, St. Joseph's MO to 1957 in Hancock Cty.) Your suggestions and leads will be most appreciated. I also administer the SHANK FAMILY WEB SITE at MyFamily.com If you would like a temp password to join us there, please send your complete name and email address directly to me at mrshankindybiz@home.com. Thanks in advance for any help you offer!
Silly me, I should have included this in my "THANK YOU" post. The way I found the number for the Hancock County Court House was by going to http://www.findlayoh.com/online/county/official.htm and scrolling down to Probate Court. Hope this helps someone! Sandra Tipton
To all those folks who responded to my request for a copy of a marriage license from Hancock County for Thomas F. Sickles and Elizabeth Mansfield, THANK YOU. I called the court house on Monday to verify they actually have the record I need. I was still required to request it in writing and send the money (mine was $1.25). The folks at the court house are very helpful and looked up the record while I was on the line. I knew immediately that it was available. Thanks again to all who responded. Sandra Tipton
If anyone would like to adopt a county for the Obituary Links Page such as Marlys from Nebraska did, ( see her page at http://www.cribbs.net/obit/form.htm ), and you would like to have your own query page like Marlys', please forward me this info: Your name (first name if that is your preference) Your county(s) and state(s) Your range of years for the query Limitations Color scheme preference for your page See also Janet's at http://www.cribbs.net/obit/janet.htm The way it works, when someone fills in the blanks and hits "Submit", an email is generated to you with the query info. You will then receive the query by email to which you can respond in you own way. I will send you the URL for your page which you can distribute as you will or add to your email signature. Thanks for sharing to the genealogy world your resources. Sincerely, Bill Cribbs The Obituary Links Page http://www.cribbs.net/obit/

Have any of you Hancock Co. rooters discovered a source for school records listing elementary or high school students in Findlay during the years between 1885 and 1898? I inquired about this, in person, at the Board of Education office in 1996 and was told that the records no longer exist. I guess I'm not entirely convinced that this is true, or I'm hoping that it's not. I would welcome any suggestions or directions to search from anybody with possible access to any such school records. Thanks a lot, Linda Sayre
It seems to me that they discovered some of these records and suggested you can look again for them. I do not remember the details as I haven't anyone to search in that era. Check the archives. It may have been on Roots-L. Margaret Calvin.

We have all seen some strange entries on census. Ran across one today that I just had to share with all of you. Don had a g. grandfather on his mother's side who was named Robert and was a twin, the other boy named John. The boys were born in 1867. I have had the 1870 census ordered in for many months, finally got it in. Primarily got it to just have a xerox copy for our records. Found the family -- father, mother and three children older than the boys. Where the boys should have been listed, it was "JTR" age 2 M W born AL. Had to wait until we got the entry under the magnifying glass. It says, and I quote -- "J + R". The census taker in this census was great for writing initials down about half the time. In this case of twins, he put them both on the same line!! Had we not known that there were twin boys, and had the proof, we would be forever looking for a male JTR. Have seen some good ones, but this one so far takes first prize. Don and Mary in Wyoming
Searching for Priscilla (POWELL) DeLONG b 1857 Hancock Co.,OH. d/o Andrew POWELL and Phoebe Ann YATES. History of Hancock Co, OH, 1886, page 795, showed Mrs. Priscilla DeLong, Tipton Co, IN. In an estate settlement in 1891, she was Priscilla DeLong of Findlay, Hancock Co, OH. Who was her husband? Were there any children? Seeking info on the family. Suzy
I believe that someone wrote about a HUBER last week on the list. I don't know if it will help or not, but in the 1886 history of Hancock Co, OH, is an entry on Benjamin HUBER, a second on Jacob Macklin HUBER, and a third on Samuel HUBER. The articles are extensive and give much family genealogy. They are found on pages 757-8. Let me know if there is interest here or if this source has not been used yet. Suzy
I am looking for information on Emma Walther or Walters who married Charles Wesley Kinney and her parents and family as well as his. I have information on their descendants but nothing on her ancestors or his. Thank you for any assistance you may be able to give. A.J.Mellott
