Dear Listers I am looking for any information on my ancestors named Shehen, Shehan, Sheen, Scheen, Jordan who traveled thru Hancock county bet 1840-1850. My grandfather Milton Sheen b. 1839 in Holmes County was traveling with William D. SHEHEN age 51-61 on their way to Putnam County. Milton's father,William SHEEN age 30-40 may have died on the way. If anyone is searching this family or has information I would like to be in contact with them. Marilynn VanBrocklin mvanbroc@pcfl.net

If this has been mentioned before I apologize for your time. The following location has a collection of many old items including an 1880's vintage map of Findlay, Ohio. <http://memory.loc.gov/ammem/collections/finder.html> If you get to the page select "MAPS" in the box on the right - a search page will come up - type in "Ohio" and about the 4th map listed will be "Findlay, Ohio, the Gas City" The picture is zoomable and contains an index of points of interest as well as source information, etc. It may be of little help with your genealogical quest but I just thought it was interesting. Maybe some of you will too. Craig Todd ctodd@dnaco.net Fairborn, Ohio
The Eckert line I'm tracing is vague. Mary Eckert married Terrence O'Quin/Quin in Northumberland co, PA - at least I think they married there. When i was in Lewisburg I found some old journals in which it stated that Mary and her sister were separated after the Indians killed their family. After 32 years, the sister was found about 40 miles away and they had a reunion. That is ALL I have. It did not say whether there was a brother uncle or any other male who survived. Margaret C.
We have a John Eckert, born 24 November 1798 in Pennsylvania. Married Sarah (Sally) Mosere (sp?) April 1820 in Fairfield County, Ohio. They ended up in Hancock County, Ohio where they are buried. We have considerable information on this line forward, but not backward. Don and Mary in Wyoming

Hi, I'm Kelly, the one going to Maple Grove to get photos of headstones for some of you. Forgive me if you know this already (I'm fairly new to the list), but did you know that several of you on this list have common ancestors?!? I printed out everyone's e-mails, and as I was going over the info, I noticed some people have common ancestors. Including me (with FELLER)! In case you don't know, here's what I found: --Caroline (jschutz1@elp.rr.com) has George (and Jane) POE in common with Mary (maryhart@interl.net) --Mary (maryhart@inter1.net) also has the name CRITES in common with Mike (michael@creps.org) --And then me with the name FELLER I'll let you know if I see more. Hope that helps! ~Kelly =) {Researching: BURNHAM, KELEHER, HASTINGS, TRUESLOW, WENTZ, MCPARTLIN, FELLER, JANKOWSKI, TRESSEL (to name a few)} E-Mail: KELBEL3000@aol.com
I, too, am looking for a location to go with the photographer's name on two old photos taken somewhere in Ohio, possibly Fairfield, Montgomery or Hancock Co.: C. LeForgee Linda Sayre

I didn't see it available on the Ohio Gen. Site. It's listed on AMAZON.com for $35.00 and a 4-6 week delivery period! From there I went to the publisher's page (Carl Mauntz Publishing), same price. It sounds like it might be more a picture book, but I'm still hopeful. The best news is that there is a copy in the Findlay Hancock Library, so maybe someone there could check it out. The call number is 770.9771. (Their "card" catalogue is available on line!) Thanks all for your responses. Gaye O'Callahan GayeO@AOL.com --part1_0.c73dd58a.2563749a_boundary--
Diane Gagel did a book on Ohio photographers. I THINK you can get it from Ohio Gen. Soc at Mansfield, but I'm not really sure. Check their page. Margaret Calvin.
Is there someone who lives in Hancock County on this list that would do a lookup for me? please email me privately. jbargeon@provide.net
Hello All, I will be taking a trip to Ohio (in a couple weeks) and plan on going to Maple Grove Cemetary. I will gladly take a photo or two some headstones if anyone needs them, and then send them to you once they are developed (either snail mail or e-mail). BUT, if you want me to take photos, PLEASE make sure that your ancestor is buried in the Maple Grove Cemetary. I don't want to go on any wild goose chases if you don't know for sure whether or not he/she is buried there. Let me know.... ~Kelly R. Somebody out there want to write a book? Or maybe just start a list. I've wished for a list, too. Every time I'm back in Hancock County, I've threatened to search the newspapers and start one, but I never seem to have time. I can give a dates for a couple of photographers from pictures that I have identified of my own family.. Zays was in Findlay in 1871 and Buck was in McComb in 1896 and 1900. Also Henderson (sp?) in McComb in 1900. All give or take a couple of years. There is also apparently a good web site at <http://www.city-gallery.com/> regarding the dating of several types of photographs from their mountings, etc.. I have not visited the site, only seen data taken from that site - Leah in Texas
If someone has the answer to this one, please post it to the list. I too have some Hancock County photos to date. As new people join these lists each day, lwt me again issue an invitation to anyone researching the many variations of the SHANK surnam: Shank, Shanks, Shenk, Schenk, Schenck etc. We are a conglomerate of Dutch, German, Moravian, Swiss Mennonite and Scots-Irish-English ethnic heritage. Fathers and sons and brothers often spelled the surname differently. This is a pass word only entry site: to obtain a temp access, email me PRIVATELY at mrshankindybiz@home.com giving me YOUR COMPLETE NAME and email address ( gender, too, please if your name could be either male or female.) Can someone tell me if there are applications for marriage in Hancock county. Trying to find info on Freedom Henry Church who married Mary Jane Porterfield, 16 Oct. 1849. Judy
It was originally Findley, but has been Findlay for a long time. There is a genealogical line on Findley, so that probably confuses the issue too. M. Calvin.
>From the book, Findlay, The Story of a Community by William D. Humphrey (an Associate Professor at Ohio Northern University) published 1961. P. 15 " But the post office reflects several divergent spellings of the name. As it was formerly named "Fort Findley," this was an error, probably due to a mistake in the spelling in the petition. The first change came in April 1828 when "Fort" was dropped and the name "Finley" became official. In March 1856 the spelling was changed to "Findley." It wsn't until February 1870 that the last change "Findlay" brought the name into line with the proper spelling of Colonel Findlay's name." I hope this helps. There is a Finney Town and a Findley Market down in Cincinnati. Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com
