I`ve hit a wall in Findlay where I have the marriage licence of Daniel Wolf and Nancy Bond, October 12th 1848. They migrated to Branch County Michigan in about 1850 and he fought and was killed in the Civil war, a few months before it was over in 1865. I can follow the Wolf (Wolfe) family forward, but can not get any further back than 1848, in Findlay. Last mention I have of them in Findlay is the 1850 Census when they lived with their 3 month old daughter, Ellen in Liberty Twp, Hancock Ohio. I would really like to know the names of his parents, and where they came from Many thanks. Grace Wolfe Hammond, chammond@net-magic.net.
I'm having no success finding any info on my grandmother, born Christine Richert in Van Buren Twp on 24 May 1868, per her obituary in the Courier. My sister has visited the Probate Court in Findlay and found no record of her birth. She married George Adam Weissling in 1888 and there is a handwritten note indicating she was "of Jenera" and married by a "Rev Byers of Jenera". I know that her father was a Daniel Richert and that she allegedly had at least one brother. If anyone knows of anything about Christine or the family Richert I'd sure appreciate receiving it. Thanks, Jack Weissling
I am looking for any information regarding the Clingerman/Klingeman surname. My gggrandfather (Charles Clingerman) came to Hancock County in 1838 and settled on 80 acres outside Williamstown in Madison Twnship. My grandfather was William, his father was Ellis and then his father was Charles. Thank you for any help possible. Rosemary Tucson, AZ.

>From Brown's "History of Hancock County" 1886: Page 877 GILMER: In Washington Township "NICHOLAS FOX, farmer, P.O. Arcadia, was born in this county July 10, 1847, son of William and Catherine (MALES) FOX, the former a native of Pennsylvania. WILLIAM FOX enlisted in the war of 1812, but did no active service: he removed to Fairfield County, Ohio, and afterward to Seneca County, and finally to Hancock County about 1827, and here lived until his death, engaged in farming. NICHOLAS FOX has always resided in this county, and has at present a farm of 160 acres of land in a high state of cultivation. He married, December 31, 1868 Miss MARY GILMER, daughter of JOHN GILMER. an old resident of this county: four of their eight children are now living: EDWARD, JOHN E., MOLLIE and WILLIAM: those deceased are MYRTIE, ROSA, NETTIE and MINNIE. Mr. Fox is member of the I.O.O.F. , Arcadia Lodge No 595. He is one of the substantial and progressive farmers of Washington Township, this county. In politics her is a Democrat." There are several other references to s William Fox, but I suspect they are one of the "other" William Foxes. P 306 under the history of Hancock County talking about roads: " Another early county road was established in UNION TOWNSHIP in the spring of 1833. the petition was presented to the commissioners March 4 of that year, with the following names appended thereto: Wenam WADE, WILLIAM FOX, Joseph BURKET, Henry SMALTZ, Philip, John, Simon and Philip CRAMER Jr., William M. COLELO, Alexander HARDIN, Solomon FOGLESONG, Jacob FOX Sr., Jacob FOX, Jr., Isaac COMER, John and Thomas MULLEN and Solomon and Stephen LEE." There are further entries regarding William Fox on pages 487, 488, 492, but these also refer to the Union Twp. Foxes, with William the son of Jacob Sr., Page 507, Washington Twp., early settlers of the township. "WILLIAM and ELIZABETH FOX moved from Fairfield County to Seneca County, Ohio, at an early day, and in 1827 came into Washington Township, where both spent the rest of their days. they had a large family, only one of whom, ELIAS, survives. He was born here in 1834, and is a leading farmer of his native township." There seems to be an agreement and a contradiction here with the previous information on William Fox. Page 859 Union Township mentions the marriage of Mary, daughter of WILLIAM and SARAH FOX to SOLOMON GHASTER, but I doubt this is your William. If any of these Union Twp. Foxes are part of yours, let me know and I will send the rest of what is written about them. Hope this helps. - Leah in Texas Bob & Wanda Deitemeyer wrote: > Is William Fox or John Gilmer mentioned in Brown's History of Hancock Co? > > Thanks, > > Wanda

I don't know the details of who helped or if the mother came across the apartment herself being she works...even if it's of little income. Many who know her are still surprised how anyone thought the site we had up was a scam...but everything turned out wonderful! Just sooo happy for these people. Still looking for any information on Thomas or Edward BROSIUS of Tiffin, OH, in about the 1920s. Thanks. Barbara DAVIDSON Norkus
Bear with my folks. I'm having hardware problems and also ISP problems. Am answering your queries in the order received. - Leah >From Brown's "History of Hancock County" 1886: Page 472: early settlers of Pleasant Township "Thomas, James and John PICKENS settled in the west part of the township on Pickens Run, in 1837. Early in that year Thomas entered land in sections 7, 8, and located on the last mentioned section. James took up forty acres in section 18, and forty acres in section 19 in 1838, but the whole family came from Belmont County, Ohio, in 1837. Thomas was a millwright and carpenter, and in 1845 erected a grist-mill on Pickens Run, which was in operation for many years. He died upon his farm in this township, and Mrs. T. B. KELLEY is the only one of his children in the county, the sons having removed to Michigan. The names of a few others who came in between 1835 and 1840 could be given, but those given will illustrate the class of settlers who first built their cabins in the forest of Pleasant Township, and to extend this list into the period when the county was no longer a wilderness is not the intent of this chapter." Page 478: early history of Pleasant Twp. "Early in 1861 North Ridgeville postoffice was established at Pickens Corners, on section 18. BENJAMIN PICKENS was the first postmaster, and was succeeded by LEMUEL MOW. In 1869 or 1870 North Ridgeville was abolished, and no office has since existed at that point, though Deweyville and Shawtown are both easy of access to farmers living in the western part of the township." Saw a mention of a WISELEY in a reply on Brown's History. Just wondered if he connects anyway to a Martin L. Wiseley who married Clara ADAMS in Hancock Co, 1897. No other data yet found on WISELEY line. Clara's parents were Philip ADAMS and Therise RICHARD, probably both from Alsace-Lorraine, who married in Hancock Co, 1856. This is my brick wall! Some 11 children but I have only found a little on most except for my ggm, Anna Adams, who married Joseph FELDKIRCHER. ADAMS belonged to St. Michael's Parish in Findlay.
