Linda, Echo the thanks for offering to use your "investment" in the cemetery book! Interested in NORRIS entries that might be listed. Really hope you don't find anything - keeps my efforts down to Hancock and Wayne Co's, I believe. Thanks, Dave Norris in VA

Just think of the time and expense they have saved you. I know that they don't charge much more for the books than their cost of publishing them. I guess we owe all those volunteers not just the book compliers but the volunteers that work at the genealogical society a big thank you. Without them the information wouldn't be as readily available to us all. Vicky Stozich
Linda, Thank you so much for your offer to do lookups! Would you tell me if your book on the cemeteries of Bloom Township, Wood County, Ohio has the names of persons buried in the respective cemeteries? If so I would love to know if there are any Whitakers listed in the book. Also of secondary interest, if their are any Bairds in the book. Thanks so much for your time and generosity, Josiah Whitaker in Portland, OR
Linda, Thanks for the offer for looks-ups. I don't need any but wanted to thank you for your generosity in offering to do so. I know the cost of books can be wallet thining. Thanks again and welcome back we've missed you!!!! Leslie Researching Hancock names: DOTY, HOUCK, ALGE, KRAMER, SMALTZ, LAZENBY, EBAUGH, FLICK, COLEMAN, and many more.
Good Morning All, Pull up a chair--Have a cuppa... I came home from my Wood County, Ohio trip last night. I went to the Wood County Genealogical Society Office in Bowling Green...That according to my husband was a mistake. We came home much poorer because I had to spend money on books. I have some questions for the knowledgeable ones on the list...Now that I have a list of names (from the cemetery listings) Do I send for death certificates? Where? If I send for Death Certificate information what information will I get? I also bought a book ($25.00) that I had not seen on the list of available publications "Bloomdale, Ohio Area Obituaries" This was compiled first to help with the writing of the Bloomdale Centennial Book, in 1988, (I also have this book "Bloomdale, Ohio Area Families") and then was made into a separate book. There are numerous obituaries and some other newspaper clippings in this book. If anyone need any lookups from these publications please let me know. I also have "Southern Wood County Oral History Project" and "Cemeteries In..." 1. Bloom Township, Wood County, Ohio, 2. Freedom township, Wood County, Ohio, 3. Perry Township, Wood County, Ohio, and 4. Montgomery Township, Wood County, Ohio. Please if you need any of this information let me know and if anyone out there has the cemetery book from Portage township, Wood County, Ohio, I really could use a lookup for any and all surnames: Drake, Graves, Hanna, Fry, Lindley, McQuinn, Hiser, Perry, Ault, Hampshire. Now that the business has been taken care of...did you miss me? Has anything happened while I've been gone the past five days? It seems awfully quiet out there this morning. Well, I hope to hear from some of you. Love to all, Linda STENSRUD DRAKE

There are cemeteries listed on line at the USGENWEB page site for Hancock Co. Unfortunately, it contains a few inaccuracies which I understand the local DAR chapter hopes to sort out soon. I am looking for information on Benjamin Henry Spayth. He is the son of Rebecca Henry and Adam C. Spayth. Benjamin was born 1850 in Findlay, Hancock County, Ohio and died 1916 Pickaway County, Ohio. He married Barbra Ann Bowman on 1/9/1870 in Findlay. Have been unable to find info on Benjamin's parents. Supposedly both from Richland County, Ohio. Benjamin and Barbra (Bowman) Spayth moved to Washington Township, Pickaway County, Ohio. I have tons of info on Bowman side but not too much on the Spayth's. Benjamin Spayth is my great-great grandfather. Anyone researching this line? Thanks! Sue epiatt@computech-online.net

I am not aware of cemetery listings for all cemeteries in Hancock Co. on the web, but the Hancock Co OGS has available publications of many of the cemetery listings, by townships. The order form lists 17 different township booklets, with the names of the cemeteries included in each. Prices of each range from $8 to $15, plus $2 shipping. They also have other publications including federal census indexes, early marriage records, wills, etc. I found these booklets quite helpful when searching for info on early ancestry there. To find out what is available you could write to: Hancock Chapter, OGS P. O. Box 672 Findlay, OH 45839-0672 A satisfied customer from Iowa, Enid
Jean, I have forwarded your letter to the Hancock List: I have recently located my great granduncle Henry F. Sebastian in Gilpin Co., CO. Henry Sebastian's first wife Elizabeth Bradford died in about 1858 in Hancock Co., OH. Before 1860 Census he remarried a Mary LaMunyon and went west to Colorado to find gold. I located his 1874 purchase of the mineral rights to the Lupold Lode in Gilpin Co., CO in www.blm.gov. I have found nothing on his marriage to Mary LaMunyon or her ancestry. Henry F. Sebastian is not found in Hancock Co., OH after the 1850 Census but his children by Elizabeth Bradford Sebastian are located in homes of Hancock Co. relatives in 1860 and thereafter. Hope someone has a connection. Jean
Looking at the Hancock County index for 1870, I've concluded that your Snyder is either Delose or Elizabeth. I've been able to trace my ggrandmother's Snyder ancestors back to Perry County, OH, and maybe Bedford , PA, and maybe WV. However, my ggrandfather's (1835-1883). ancestry dead ends with him. It seems to me that I've seen Elizabeth's grave in Indian Green. Do you have any of your McComb Snyder's ancestry? It would seem highly probable that there is a relationship there somewhere.. - Leah in Texas, but raised in McComb. Hi Leah, Thanks for responding....I guess I'm supposed to write back to the List in answering you. I should add more info about my SNYDER and GIFFORD My great-great grandparents: Jeremiah SNYDER b. abt 1834 in Ohio Rachael R. GIFFORD Snyder b. abt 1848 in Ohio....their children: Clara b. 1867 Findlay, OH Howard b. 1869, OH They all ended up going West; Clara married at age 17 in Jefferson Co, Colorado, then went on to Arizona and California. Her son, my grandfather, W. Ray, took his stepfather's name, MYERS, and worked in Silent Films in Los Angeles, CA. Even his mother Clara "hammed it up" according to my mom, in some of the films. I thought perhaps because FINDLAY, OH, had an opera house it could've been an influence; Rachael played piano. I was told that Rachael received terrible burns due to a fire started by a kerosene lamp, and she had to have one arm amputated. These clues paint a fascinating picture of a one-armed piano player who played for the same guys perhaps in a mining camp in which Jerry baked bread! :-) Hopefully someone can lead me to data and sources to prove and/or find the parents of Jerry and Rachael. Thanks! Linda in CA
People eat bread everywhere: maybe there were few bakers in Colorado? All the cemeteries of Hancock County, including McComb, are transcribed (DAR) on microfilm #2055344 available at LDS Family History Centers. McComb is included. I have a copy of that microfilm checked out right now. I am told, though, that the Hancock Chapter OGS is currently working on completing a newer and more accurate version, so the OGS could undoubtedly give you the best up-to-date information. Len
