Can a copy of the latest Hancock Cemetery Transcriptions be purchased from OGS? If so, how much would it cost? I have the LDS microfilm of it, but am finding that it might be advantageous to own it since our people settled there and we may find cousins with different surnames who lived there. Ours were mostly in Portage and Amanda townships, maybe Jackson too. So if it's available by township that might work as well. Thanks for whatever info you can give - Len Niesen
I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY INFO ON FLORENCE BELL ELDERS FAMILY. SHE WAS BORN IN HANCOCK COUNTY AROUND 1893 or 1894. SHE MARRIED ELVIN LEWIS SPEAR AND HAD SEVERAL CHILDREN INCLUDING ROBERT LEWIS SPEAR, BORN IN CLARK COUNTY,GREENE TOWNSHIP, ON DEC.21,1923. I WOULD LIKE TO KNOW ABOUT MY HERITAGE SINCE I NEVER MET THIS SIDE OF MY FAMILY. THANK YOU!
According to the marriage records of Auglaise Co, Ohio Mollie E. Springer married Abraham Drummon, 11 Dec 1880. I am trying to confirm or deny that the above bride was Mary Springer, b. 10 Jul 1851, the dau. of Ewing B. Springer and (Dorcas) Jane Slater. In the 1900 Ohio census, in Findlay, Hancock Co, Ohio I find this family: Abram C. Drummon b. Aug 1858, age 41, b. Ohio Mary E. b. July 1850, age 49, b. Ohio Lulu b. Nov 1881, age 18, b. Ohio Roy M. b. May 1888, age 12, b. Ohio Is this Mary Springer? Is she the dau. of Ewing B. Springer? Thank you, Kathleen Rizer

Hancock listers: Would someone please explain to this thickheaded Buckeye what was so awful about the INFORMATION that Michelle posted? So awful that listers got on her case? There was a similar situation recently on the Saskatchewan list when an unhappy lister told all about not receiving what had been ordered. The results were that the person from whom he had ordered the information came up with it and apologized all around and the complainer got his information and everyone got an explanation. Seems to me we should be encouraging information, not discouraging it. - Leah in Texas P. S. I'm also thick-skinned, so flame on if it will make you feel better. Ohio death certificates are on line from 1913 - 1937 at: <http://dbs.ohiohistory.org/dindex/search.cfm>. To all listers: I have just received a copy of the Hancock County Cemetery Inscriptions book that includes the listings for St. Michael's Catholic Cemetery. In that book, I have found several relatives listed with only the year of death noted. As I would now like to get copies of their Ohio death certificates, I feel I will need the actual dates (month and day) of their deaths. Can anyone tell me if that data would be available through St. Michael's Cemetery, and if so, could someone please forward me the address and/or contact person to write for such information? Also, was there a Lutheran cemetery in or around Findlay, Ohio? Hello Hancock listers, is there someone who could look up an obit in the appropriate newspaper. I would be willing to trade look ups here in Chicago in return. I have access to a great genealogy library plus death and birth indexes for Cook co. I am looking for the obit for Carl Bidlack. He died in Dec. 1980 in Arlington or Findlay, Ohio. If possible, also the obit for Mildred Bidlack, died Jun 1979 in Findlay. I don't have the exact date of death, sorry. Thanks, Tim Mahe
Hello! Does anyone know of a Mary Lee Hass who once did genealogy research on the PETTYJOHN family? Her last known address was Findlay, Ohio (Hancock County.) Any info would be greatly appreciated. Thanks. Paul. pjohn2@madisontelco.com
My apologies to any and everyone that I may have indirectly offended. It was not my intention to get personal flames by sending this message that if anyone would have read closely, was NOT written by me. I guess that's why I never post anything anyway. Too many bad vibes from people. I have learned from my mistake, and will NEVER post anything other than my personal quiries. I do appreciate that all responses were mailed directly to me and not to bother the other listers. Michelle
I thought I should pass this opinion on to people. It might save you. Group: alt.genealogy From: tgroom@worldnet.att.net (Theodore Groom) Genealogy Scam This note is a warning to the genealogy public to be aware of fraudulent genealogical search providers, in particular that located at the site listed below: http://genealogyPro.com/nmitchell.html After 4 months and more than $125 U.S. in expenses I have received no useful information from the provider. Now I recognize that searches do not always turn out positive. I have considerable experience in that myself. In this particular case though it should be a simple matter either to find the military record or not. As it turns out the wrong record was sent when the "searcher" had more than enough documentation to easily tell the difference. The record sent was not even in the correct branch of military service and obviously the wrong individual. I then paid an additional fee to get the correct record, which I was assured was correct and complete. Needless to say nothing was forthcoming (over months) and my e-mails are not answered. At best this individual is inefficient and incompetent, at worst a fraud and a thief. My bet is on the latter. My advice (learned the hard way) is to check out your provider thoroughly. Get a referral from someone who has used the service with success. It may take a little more time but you'll be a lot happier for it. Don't use the above site! It includes a searchable database for Ohio Death Index from 1913-1930something. It has other valuable information for the state of Ohio. Check it out!!! Click on the link at the bottom. Good Luck! I tried to send these as two separate emails earlier but they disappeared into the ether of cyberspace apparently! I am trying to link up with people researching the PORTER line in Hancock Co. to see if my 2ggrandmother, MARY ANN PORTER b. 1833 and d. 1884 appears anywhere in your databases. I can't find out whether Robert Fleming Shank ( 1831 PA to 1902 OH) married her from/in Hancock Co or inSt. Joseph's MO where my great grandfather Albert Clinton Shank was born in 1860. Secondly, I am seeking information on the family of my 3ggrandmother, Emily FLEMING born in 1810 ( from her tombstone which said she was 36 when she died Dec 18, 1846) Henry and Emily married in Fayette Co., PA in 1828. Thanks in advance- sorry if this posts twice BUT..... Margaret Shank
Each time I begin a new line in my SHANK-WINTERS family research by going to the BIGGIE databases, I come across submisssions by a James FAGAN. I thought he was from Findlay but could not find him in the telephone book. Does anyone have any contact info on him? Margaret Shank
I am just starting my research on the maternal lines who married into the SHANK lines. I didn't know if Mary Ann PORTER who was my 2ggrandmother had come from Hancock Co., OH or from near St. Joseph's MO where my great grandfather, Albert Clinton Shank was born in 1860. After Quantrill's Raiders burned their homestead there, Robert, Mary Ann and Albert returned to Hancock Co., OH. I would like to make contact with anyone, or receive the names and addresses of anyone who is working on the PORTER line in Hancock Co. Thank you in advance for your time in this matter. Seeking information , of any kind, concerning Michael M. Moriarity, died Findlay September 1872, per obituaries in Dubuque IA newspapers. Moriarity may have worked on the Old Mad River & Lake Erie RR, founded by Rob't Patterson of Findlay. Any information about Irish immigrant workers on the Old Mad River RR would be appreciated. Regards, Karen
My g-grandmother, Margaret Anne BUSHONG, b. July 30, 1848. Margaret married Alva L. PRESTON on December 20, 1866 in Hancock. She died in childbirth on July 24, 1872 at Williamstown, Madison Township, Hancock Co. The birth daughter survived Margaret by 7 days. I believe her father was Peter BUSHONG as follows: >From probate records, the estate of Peter Bushong was administrated, under bond, by John L. REES (May 22, 1857). Another probate document, related to guardianship (1859), details children Margaret A., Mary A., and Estora Bushong. This document also names John L REESE as bonded for $100. Additionally, Peter Bushong and Margaret A. Preston are buried side by side in the Madison Twp. cemetery. Unsourced data available from the IGI lists Margaret's parents as Peter BUSHONG and Hannah REESE. Any help in defining Margaret's parents would be appreciated. Thanks Richard
