    3. I am sorry if this query is old to you, but since I am new to the list, I am sending it again. I am looking for information on my family. Believed to have originally been Hind. Variations of the name include HINDS [My current} HIND / HINES / HYNES / HYND, etc. My direct ancestory was in Beaver County, PA after the Revolution, but may have been descendent from Chester, PA, -- Albemarle, Augusta Counties in VA. Family members migrated through VA, PA, KY, TN, AL, AR, IN. Early names were James, William, Thomas, John, Samuel. At Beaver County, PA (Sewickley and N. Sewickley) John Hind - Revolutionary War [fifer] John, jr., George, Peter, and Jacob. Also Sampson and others. Related families included PIERSOL and OLDHAM. Descendents were known to have moved to Jennings (and surrounding) Counties, IN in the 1830/40 time frame. Included John, jr., Sampson (at least one with that name.), My great great grandfather Jason (also a John) who moved with his family into North Western Indiana. His wife Catherine (Oldham) and some Children are burried in Hemphill Cemetery. Jason died in Remington, IN. My great grandfather and some of his brothers (Includes Roark and George) served in the Civil war from that area. I would like to know what happened to the family and where descendents now live. Also, where was Revolutionary War, John Hind burried. I am Clif Hinds. Respond to me at my email: hindsclif@mindspring.com

    2. Hi Dennis and all! I guess I have gotten cynical in my old age. What is the URL for your online database? I now have a standard policy for "knowing" something about someone or a business before I send them my hard work and personal information about my family members. Please excuse my questions. I just have "been around" long enough to ask questions before I send anything to anyone. Betsy McGee Rice Riceys5@aol.com

    1. Price McDaniel Tracy Tracht
    2. Brian Bowers
    3. Hello, I've just joined the Hancock County list. I'm looking for information on my mother's family, who primarily lived in Hancock County. (Although I was born in Findlay, I haven't lived there since I was a month old.) I'm interested in these families: Price, McDaniel, Tracy and Tracht. I have much information on my Price ancestors. I'm most curious in the McDaniels and Tracys. Here's a brief rundown of what I know. PRICE: Nicholas Price and his father, Christian, immigrated to America in 1831 with a number of other families from Gadernheim, Germany, and its neighboring villages. Most settled in the Jenera area. (I recently returned to the US from six years in the Darmstadt area. I've now traced the family back to the mid-1600s. In Germany, the name was spelled Preiss.) The rest of my Price line: Nicholas E., b. 1836, m. Margaret Tracht. George H., b. 1870, m. Martha Tracy. Louie E., b. 1891, m. Faye McDaniel. Lowanda L., b. 1937. MCDANIEL: James B. McDaniel was born in Delware in 1802. He moved to Ohio and ended up in Wyandott County. (The name was often spelled McDaniels.) The rest of my McDaniel line: John McDaniel, b. 1835. Thomas C. McDaniel, b. 1866, m. Olive Elnora Frederick. Faye. E. McDaniel, b. 1900, m. Louie Price. TRACY: Abram Tracy appears in Gilboa in Putnam County in 1850. His son, Joel, lifed in the Arlington area. The rest of my Tracy line: Joel H. Tracy, b. 1833, m. Eliza Beagle. Martha M. Tracy, b. 1873, m. George Price. TRACHT: Philipp Tracht immigrated with the group from Gadernheim in 1831. His daughter Margaret married Nicholas E. Price. This family has deep roots in Germany, too. 1. J.H. SPALDING Civil War Vet's Headstone Saved
    2. Michael
    3. Here is a news item I thought I would pass along, maybe someone doing research in Mich. or researching the name SPALDING might be interested in this. If you have information about this person, you might try and contact Officer Sam Hartung. You might want to pass this article around to other researchers. Sincerely, Mike Creps Here is the article: Civil War Vet's Headstone Saved PITTSFIELD TOWNSHIP, Mich. (AP) -- The piece of stone awaiting recycling bore a strange inscription, one spotted by a sharp-eyed worker. It read: J.H. Spalding Co.K. 18 MICH.INF It was a Civil War-era tombstone. Since its discovery a month ago, police Officer Sam Hartung has tried to chronicle the history of the headstone and the life of J.H. Spalding. The 4-foot-tall, 1-foot-wide, 6-inch-deep headstone was being used as the bottom step of a porch and was taken to the City Concrete Crushing after the porch was dismantled, Hartung said. Company K of the 18th Michigan Infantry, which is what the inscription refers to, existed from 1862 to 1865. Veterans Affairs records show company member Julius H. Spalding was not killed in the Civil War. He lived in nearby Exeter Township and is believed to have died in the 1890s. Hartung is not sure where the veteran was buried, but hopes eventually to return the headstone. ``Our department wants this man to be honored,'' Hartung said.
