Hi, I'm looking for help with the families of: Robert McKinnis and Elizabeth Criner/Craner McKinnis of Findlay, and her sister Sarah Criner/Craner who was the second wife of Job Chamberlin Sr. Another sister, Martha, married Charles McKinnis (brother to Robert). They lived in Chicothe, Ohio. Job and Robert came to Hancock county (abt 1822) and were some of the first settlers of the Findlay area. Both served as township trustees in the first and second elections. Chamberlin Hill, in Findlay is named for this Job Chamberlin, (as I have read). I'm also looking for the possibility that another sister, Ruhana (Lowane), married a Robert McCullough and also lived in the Hancock County area before removing to Defiance Ohio. Any help with this group of sisters or their spouses would be greatly appreciated. Lori

I, too, have family in Hartman Cemetery. Perhaps we have some of the same families. Which families were yours? Suzy
Hello Has anyone ever heard of a Hartman Cemetery located in Eagle Township, Hancock Co., Ohio? Many of my ancestors are buried. Next year when I visit Findlay, I am going to stop & look for them in the various cemeteries. Thank You Jo Ann Gresham Spghse@aol.com
The description for the new Liberty Twp. cemetery book available through the Hancock Chapter of the OGS, lists a St. Michael's Cemetery. My relatives are buried in St. Michael's Cemetery in Findlay according to records. Does anyone know if this would be the same cemetery? And, if not the same, is it a Catholic cemetery? Thanks for any and all replies. I am looking for the grave of a Mary C. Speigle (aka Peggy Speigle) she died at the age of 16 on March 11th 1925 in Akron city, Summit county in Peoples Hospital. Her residence was 1162 Fifth avenue. She was buried in Findlay OH according to her death certificate. The undertaker was Sweeny Brothers. She was interred on 3/14/1925. My cousin has been researching this family for 10 years, and her father would like to visit this grave, the grave of his mother. She died in childbirth. Anyone who can be of assistance, it would be greatly appreciated. Many of the relatives of this family are buried in Maple Grove cemetery. Thank you Sandy

Does anyone know the history of this cemetery? We have people buried there by the name of ECKERT. Would like to know if this was a family cemetery. If so, then I need to figure out how Eckerts would be buried there. Researching: ECKERT, MCFALL, STOUGH, STONE, GOODMAN, WILSON, DORSEY, HARTZELL, CREIGHTON, LASH, HIBSCHMAN in Hancock County. Some of these ended up in Indiana, some went to Iowa and Nebraska, and some stayed in Hancock County. Don and Mary in Wyoming
Is there someone "out there" trying to get into the Hancock County list maintenance site? If so, is there something I can do to help you? Thomas J. WILLIAMSON b. 1867 d. 1948 Hancock Co, OH. mar. 5 Nov 1890 Hancock Co, OH Chloe Bell FINK. They had three children. Thomas's obit showed them as: Miss Ivy Williamson, Mrs. Gladys Tresel, and Floyd B. Willliamson, "of Akron or vicinity." My great aunt said that Gladys's name was Fairie Gladys. The obit also showed that Betty Tresel was a granddaughter. I'd like to find this part of the family. Also, did Chloe marry after Thomas's death? I can find no obit for her. Suzy

I am new on the list and actually descend from Kiblers and McClellands who lived in Hancock Co. My problem right now is centered around the McClellands. I am trying to find the land records for the first property my MCCLELLAND ancestors bought in Hancock Co. I have a copy of of pages of EARLY LAND RCORDS OF HANCOCK CO, OHIO compiled by the Hancock Co Chapter, OGS and also BROWN'S HISTORY OF HANCOCK COUNTY. The OGS compilation says David and John entered land 7 May 1836 and Robert, the father entered land 4 Nov 1835 and that they came from Beaver, PA. (pp 28) The History of Hancock lists all his children but Fergus as being in Hancock, "they left Beaver Co, PA with Thomas, Geo. W. & Nancy and settled in spring of 1837 in prev. registered Section 27 following after sons, David, John, Alexander and James who had come in spring of 1836." (p 412) However, when I visited Hancock Co 2 yrs ago and went to the court house the only land records I remember seeing on my MCCLELLANDS ( and copying) were records in 1849 and later. I also checked the Indexes at the LDS FHL and the only ones I saw there were also 1849 and later. I have one other question in regard to the land records I did find. In one of the land records I copied, there is land transfered to James from Alexander on 15 August 1860, pp 421 in the land records book, I forgot to write the Vol #. It turns out the Grantors are actually Alexander and his wife, Minerva, referred to here as Manervy. The grantee gives her $1.00 ... to release forever her right of Dower. I am thinking that maybe this land was given her by her family but it is also in Section 27 where McClellands entered land in 1836. Is there anyway I can check the ownership of that property, with the land description and see who the last couple of owners were? None of the other land records gave the wives Dower rights, all were taken to another room and asked about the sale of the property but that was all. I am sorry this ended up quite long but I'd really appreciate any help you can give me. Thanks, Alice Harris akh@molalla.net
