Joan, Glad that the site can help you. My grandfather was born and raised in Cincinnati. His wife was from Dayton, Ky. After a few years in Dayton, Ky. they moved to Middletown, Ohio and remained there for the rest of their lives. I am still looking for information on a baseball semi pro team in Cincinnati called the Reserves. My grandfather Brengelman was a left handed pitcher for them. Of course, I realize there were many teams in Cincinnati before the national leagues began to form. The Baseball Hall of Fame had no information on such a team, however I have a large photo of the team in their uniforms. Does anyone out there know of someone who has researched the semi-pro teams before the Red Stockings? Kennett
Kennett, Are you sure they were called the Reserves. Or could they have been the Resolutes? Kennett, I happened to go searching this past week for pictures of baseball teams connected to Cincinnati and/or history of baseball in Cincinnati because I rec'd a message from a guy in Beech Grove IN (Indianapolis vicinity) with a team picture of a team ca 1926. After a bit of searching I have confirmed that it was taken at Redlands Field, later known at Crosley Field by the buildings in the back ground. This particular team from Beechwood was a league associated (it seems) with "New York Central League" or "Big 4 Athletic League", both connected to the RR. Perhaps some union thing or not, I don't know, there is very little, but at least a little that I was able to find online that mentioned the RR & baseball. I'm not that knowledgeable about baseball, but perhaps there were a number of little known leagues back then? In my searches, it seems even the baseball websites don't know enough in that time period ...... If you'd like to send me your team photo to put online at the Hamilton Co OHGenWeb & ALHN page with our unidentified photo's, perhaps someone somewhere........ This probably doesn't help except to let you know you are not alone. <grin> Linda ----- Original Message ----- From: <KennettW@aol.com> To: <OHHAMILT-L@rootsweb.com> Sent: Tuesday, July 19, 2005 10:02 AM Subject: Re: [OH-HAMILT] Old Photo's link &baseball > Joan, > > Glad that the site can help you.
