In addition to Joan's good suggestions, be sure to check the Spring Grove Cemetery web site as many Civil War participators were buried there and the information usually gives parent's names and cause of death. In addition to NARA there are individual researchers in Washington DC who will copy Civil War Records, usually more quickly than NARA and for less money. Phyllis
