Hi, all, I am relatively new to this list. I have been researching my Hamilton County genealogy for a while, though. I wonder if anyone has any relatives who were in pork packing? Both side of my paternal grandmother's family were in this business: Charles Davis and Samuel Davis, Jr. were brothers who started out together, but eventually had separate companies, first downtown, later out on Spring Grove Avenue. They also had other Davis brother in business with them. Dates would be 1830s to late 1890s. Also, in business with them at one time or another: John H. Porter and Nathaniel Goldsmith. All of these men were born in Massachusetts. Also, Joseph Rawson and his sons, Warren, Edward, Joseph Jr. Rawson. They, too, started out downtown and moved out Spring Grove way to get away from the river and its flooding and to take advantage of the railroad. In business with Joseph originally was Warren Hartshorn and John R. Child. These three men were all from Massachusetts. I am interested in them, but also interested in the meat packing business in Cincinnati. If anyone can point me to some resources, it would be appreciated. Thanks, Abby Pettiss Researching Charles Davis, Samuel Davis Jr., Joseph and Warren Rawson, John H. Porter, Charles Bonsall, Nathaniel Goldsmith, John R. Child, Warren Hartshorn and their families.
