Hamilton Co. has had several court house fires (4 up through the last in 1884). We have lot's of "missing records" but we have also a dedicated group of people, for the most part connected through the Hamilton County Chapter of Ohio Genealogical Society (http://members.aol.com/ogshc/index.htm) over the years who have spent a great many hours compiling information from other sources (church, cemetery, and yes, court house records) & publishing those in book form. These are ALL copyrighted & thus they can't be found and/or reproduced on the internet. Yes, that makes it hard for our out of town researchers to find things, but, I also think we have a dedicated group of individuals here on the list who go beyond the call with help for people seeking information. We also have a list of volunteers on the Hamilton Co. OHGenWeb site to do LOOK-UPS (http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohhamilt/lookups.html) & always seeking new volunteers who own or have access to specific publications. Otherwise, one must buy the book to have access to the information. I am in the middle of working on a page for the Hamilton Co OHGenWeb site (http://www.rootsweb.com/~ohhamilt/mnpg.html), it will probably take me a few days to get in online, but, I have found 3-4 places to purchase books & am as well trying to list out of print books which contain info. Will let you know when it is online & ready for additions/corrections. I guess my point is (& I may have sounded a bit rough last night), but there is information out there, it may not all be free & found on the internet, nor can it be because of copyright. My hope with the new page I am setting up is to let you know what has been published & where/if you can still find it to buy. Beyond that, it is up to some "kind soul" who will take the time to check for information in copies they own of the published resources.
