Hello, In reviewing the City Directories for several families, I notice the occupation "HUCKSTER". Was this a common street peddler with "cheap" merchandise? Seems liked there were several hucksters listed... Anyone that can enlighten me I'd be very appreciative. Tim Allgeyer

According to the dictionary a huckster is 1. One who sells wares or provisions in the street; a peddler or hawker. 2. One who uses agressive, showy, and sometimes devious methods to promote or sell a product. 3. My great-grandfather was a huckster. He used a push cart and sold produce. Some hucksters used horse and wagons. My grandfather was not technically a huckster but a teamster because he delivered ice.
