    3. From the Tuesday morning June 26, 1888 Cincinnati Enquirer. JOSEPH SCHALLER DEAD: The Well-Known Brewer and Wealthy German Pioneer Dies of Inflammation of the Stomach. Mr. Joseph SCHALLER, one of the oldest and best known citizens of Cincinnati, died at his residence on Rapid Run pike, near Warsaw, in Delhi Township, at three o'clock yesterday afternoon. He was seventy-seven years old and has been confined to his bed for the past week with inflammation of the stomach and bowels. Mr. Schaller came to America from Germany when quite a boy. Coming to this city he engaged in the vinegar business with Ex-senator John SCHIFF, both of who subsequently bought the old Lofthouse Brewery that stood on Fourth st, below Smith. The firm was prosperous and in a short while built the Eagle Brewery at Plum and Canal. Mr. Schaller bought out his partner's interest in the concern and then sold a share to John GERKE. Six years ago he sold the entire brewery to Mr. Gerke and retired from business with an estate valued at about half a million dollars. When he retired, Mr. Schaller have each of his children $25,000 and started his sons in the brewery business on Main street. He leaves six children - Messrs. Michael, William and Peter Schaller, Mrs. STICHTENOTH, a widow; Mrs. ROYSE, wife of Captain Thomas S. Royse, and Mrs. Adolph PITTON all of whom reside in this city. Mr. Schaller was a member of the German Pioneers Association and was well and favorably known as a charitable, energetic and worthy citizen. The arrangements for his funeral have not yet been completed. Phyllis
