Ohio Wills and Estates to 1850 catalogs many different sources in addition to the Wills that now reside at Blegen Library. A complete list of sources used for each county is at the beginning of the book. Ohio Wills and Estates includes references to both testate (with wills) and intestate (without wills) estate settlements. If there is a W before the year in the listing (W-1819), then there is a will and the will should be in both the courthouse will book and a copy of the original will at Blegen Library. If there is a E before the year (E-1819), then there was no will. The book also includes references for estates whose courthouse records were destroyed in the courthouse fires. If the A is preceded by a c, (cA793), then there may be no courthouse record remaining. The cA number refers to Estate Records from the Minn. Title Co. that are at the Cincinnati Historical Society. Bell states "7 Volumes give names of decedents, date of probate, type of record, case number and will record. The case # bears no relationship to any court-assigned case no. . . . There is no further data to be obtained from these case numbers and it should be noted that the Title Co. Records are highly accurate as to names when compared to extant will records." I followed up at the Cincinnati Historical Society and learned that the Minnesota Title Company books are sealed records since they contain adoption information. They are not available to the public without a court order. Very few estate records remain for the time period you are researching. Those that remain are scant on details. The will books mentioned previously might help you if there was a will. A few others you might want to consult in are: 1) Abstract of Book 1 & Book A Probate Record 1791-1826, Hamilton County. This book is available on ancestry.com and has several listings for John Brooks. 2) Abstract of Book 3, Probate Record 1829-1834, Hamilton County. 3) Abstract of Book 4, Probate Record 1834-1837, Hamilton County. 3) Family History Library Film 0910233 contains the administration index for 1790-1850 for Surnames beginning with A-G only. 4) I doubt you will find inventory records from this early date but a few restored inventories from 1809-1883 are found in the courthouse inventory books IRR 131-135. These are available on microfilm at the Public Library of Cincinnati (PLCH 929.377177 H222). All original inventories prior to 1971 were destroyed. 5) Administration and Guardian Appointments, 1791-1847 (index only), FHL Film 2209060, Items 2-3. The original ledger books abstracted in the Abstract books listed above are available on microfilm at the Cincinnati Public Library cataloged as 1791-1826, 1829-1834 Misc. Ledger Books, PLCH 929.377177 H222p 1970. I checked some of the original listings against the abstracts and found no omitted information. However, I did find one of my ancestors in the self-indexed ledger book that was not in the Abstract book. No estate was identified in the listing so perhaps that is why it was omitted from the Abstract book. I have been collecting probate records for 22 individuals who died 1816-1893 and left some probate record. The data prior to 1852 is extremely limited and only slightly better 1852-1884. I've expanded my search to probate-related land sales! You are probably more likely to learn more from the deed records. I've attached a summary of my probate record search for Thomas Morehouse who d. 1823 leaving very scant records in Hamilton County. I thought you might like to get an idea of what you might find. Good luck! Liz
